Is it possible to create a multilingual web site?
What file stuctures are created on the server?
Should I or can I create a separate database for each web site?
How do I configure the domain name?
1) Yes it is, but i am not experienced with that, for tips on that visit the localisation section in the
DNN forum2) Download the install zip file from DotNetNuke, all you do is copy those files straight up to your server, so you will be able to see the file structure from those files.
3) I create a separate database and separate installation for each of my websites because it's easier to backup and if I cause an error on my site it wont affect all of the sites.
Within DNN you can set it up so that from one installation and one database you can have as many websites as you require (dependant on how many domain names your hosting provider will allow you to point to your installation).
Generally a hosting provider will provide a domain name with more space and an additional SQL database, so I just create a separate installation.
There are some cases though with people who have created massive portals within one DNN installation.
4) Domain name, all you do is change the namerserver settings within your domain name providers control panel to point to your hosting providers servers.
DNN automatically installs when you navigate to the domain name.

How to adjust your nameserver settingsThe details in the
installing to a hosting provider tutorial go into this:
Step One – Point your domain name to the Server Intellect Servers
Server Intellect do not provide the facilities for purchasing a domain name, so we have purchased a domain name using a separate domain registrar.
The first task therefore is to adjust the Nameserver settings for your domain name. The Nameserver settings allow us to point the domain name (from our domain registrar) to our hosting provider (the Server Intellect servers).
If you do not know how to do this, follow this tutorial: How to adjust your Nameserver settings.
Step Two – Login to your Hosting Provider Control Panel
When you register with your hosting provider, they will send you an email containing all of your login details for accessing the server control panel.
From the information contained in the email from Server Intellect, we need to visit: http://control.si-diox.info to set up our server.
From this point on you can now follow the video tutorials.
Video 1 covers:
- Configuring your hosting provider server (using Helm Control Panel)
- Adding a website domain name
- Using a domain alias (Temporary URL) (we use this while waiting for the Nameserver settings to take effect – approx 24 / 48 hours)
- How to create a Microsoft SQL Server database
