Hello,
What method have you tried and what type of video file is it?
Quicktime? MPEG1? Flash? etc.
Thanks,

I had good success using NukeSyndicate for adding Video. It was not so easy getting the video uploaded due to constraints imposed by my webhost, but using FTP to upload the file and then using file manager to synchronize the database, I had zero problems thereafter. Just so you know, I spent nearly a week trying to work around a problem of "uploading large files." There is much discussion in the DNN forums on this issue. My advise, save yourself the headache and just use FTP to upload and then sync the database in the File Manager.

Hello,
One piece of advise I can give having learnt my lesson the hard way is that DNN has a 2GB file size limit on a portal (This should be fixed in 3.2.3) which basically corrupts anything to do with selecting files / uploading files within the modules of your installation.
There are options to edit the core code (which I have done, but the problems are not completely fixed), but a better solution I have found which maybe worth considering if you have a lot of traffic is to store all of your videos on a completely separate server. - This means DNN will never reach the size limit and it also has the advantage that no matter how many downloads of videos your site receives your site will not slow down due to heavy load because they are stored on a separate server.
I tended to find that my site would get pulled down because so many people were downloading videos at once, so now DNN Creative is split across 3 servers - 2 host videos (mirrors incase one goes down) and 1 hosts the actual website.
Something to think about for the future if you are using a lot of large files.
Thanks,

The 2 GB limit is a Windows thing. I've seen some third party controls that allow up to 4 GB for uploads. You might want to change your web.config file to something like this:
<!-- allow large file uploads -->
maxRequestLength="51200"
useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="false"
minFreeThreads="8"
minLocalRequestFreeThreads="4"
appRequestQueueLimit="100"/>
the key is the maxRequestLength in bytes to limit the amount of bytes being uploaded or you'll have someone upload huge files to you just to be an a??. The executionTimeout will allow enough time for your files to be uploaded. I'd suggest doing a search on these settings to more fully understand them. I currently am running these in my web.config file on DNN.
Although I don't understand how this answers the posters question on videos??
Without knowing what mime type he is running for the videos it would seem to me that the easiest way would be to place a iframe control into the rightcontentframe for example and embed the video in a seperate page with the correct dims for the content frame that holds the video.
I haven't personnaly done this but it should work. However the caveat is if the browser viewing the site can support the mime type being used. Make sure you use a very universal one. I'd suggest converting it to a Flash file to max your coverage or write a routine that checks the users browser prior to entering the site and do a redirect if they don't support your vid if its critical. A third party add in that does a great job, albeit expensive, is BrowserHawk(
http://www.cyscape.com/Default.aspx?bhcp=1).
The other way would be to test the vid from the video page and display alt content if the browser doesn't support your mime type.

Hello,
The 2GB limit is a DotNetNuke limitation. I am not referring to a limit of how many GB you can upload at once I am referring to a limit that is set due to coding within DNN that only allows you to store 2GB of files within your actual portal.
Once you go over 2GB the FileManager section no longer works, along with other areas such as trying to upload a logo, select a logo etc. all of these areas where you select files now display errors. - This is due to the code using int16 rather than int32.
Thanks,

Thanks for clearing that up Lee. Makes sense as to your previous answer. I stand corrected.
There are alot of nice things I've read about the 4.1 release but the ones that would be the most helpful are not the ones adding more funtionality but cleaning up what appears to be bad programming practices and writing non-compliant code. There's a huge amount of code behind the scenes that runs this thing and re-writing must be a nightmare. However, to truly be considered a true option some of these issues should be addressed now sooner than later.
Except for some brave people and sites, this being one of them, most people I'm sure do not fully understand how much non-compliant code there really is in this platform.
I would suggest to all those who plan on using this code that there will be times when everything you do is going to be 100% correct, but due to some backend issues with a badly formed class, your code may break.
What I'm saying is to use this with your eyes wide open. Especially if you are on a mission critical project.

Yes the key thing is to test, test, test especially if it is mission critical. - You may find that some of these errors do not appear until you start pushing DNN to its limits. - Such as the 2GB size limit, 2 years ago I did not think I would build a site that used more than 2GB of files, video / mp3s were not a mainstream thing on the internet 2 years ago so sites were smaller. - So you may find that as you progress over time you discover new errors that were previously not known. - I think this particular probem is solved within 3.2.3 that is to be released soon.
Valid code is another element which I have brought up in the main forums and has been listened to by the core team, but it's one of those things that is alongside a long list of other elements they are tackling first and I suspect it will be a long time before it is officially tackled.
However though, you can get DNN to produce valid W3C standard sites, you just have to make a few tweaks to the core code in order to get it to work. - I'm currently building another site which is a separate resource for skinning and demos every single CSS class in DotNetNuke and that site is completely valid to W3C standards. (It will be released as the next issue in the magazine in June)
The other elements that you need to consider is 3rd party modules - what guarantee do you have that they are programmed to a high standard and don't have dodgy SQL procedures that will bring your server to a halt? - None at the moment. - Anyway, getting off topic here on videos! - but yes DNN is a great tool, but if you are going mission critical you need to be aware of some of the limitations in order to either avoid them or fix them.
Thanks,
Lee Sykes
