Hi Lee
How do I specify which skin I use for the login page?
I have edited my portal site setting and admin site settings, to change the skin for the admin page: = my-new-admin-skin
I expected this to change the skin of the login page but the login page still uses the old site admin skin.
Thanks
Lynn

Hi Lynn,
Create a new Page, call it Login Add to it the 'Account Login' module Setup the skin as you require Go to Admin menu / site settings / advanced settings / Page Management
Here you will see Login page - select the new Login page that you have created
BE VERY CAREFUL YOU SELECT THE CORRECT PAGE, THIS IS WHERE PEOPLE MAKE A MISTAKE AND THEN CAN NOT LOG BACK IN TO THEIR PORTAL!
Click on Update
Thanks, |

Hi Lee
Yes I noticed that option. However, I was concerned about creating a custom login page, just in case.
My current login page is using a page from my skin and I was wondering where and how is this particular page was selected as default login? I have another page which is better suited, withoutout extra space at the top intended for specific modules and with a top menu instead of a side menu.
The same login default page is also used for registration. The registration module takes up all the space of the page and squashes the side menu down to the bottom of the page, which looks a mess.
Is there a way I can restrict the width of the registration module or perhaps edit how it looks?
Thanks.

I'm not quite sure I follow what you are saying here, but if you create a new login page with a new skin, that same skin will be used for the registration page.
On the registration page, the module does expand to fill the full width, so the only way to edit this will be to have a look at the core code and see if you can alter how it has been programmed.
Without having a look through all of the code, these files are likely to be stored in the admin / security or admin / users folder.
Open the .ascx files and you will see the table structure that is used, you could possibly adjust the table width, if this is how it has been programmed.
OR
Look at the code for your Login skin and see if you can set a specific width for your menu so that it doesn't get squashed.
It would be easier to see if you can find a workaround with the skin design rather than looking at the core code.
Thanks, |

Hi People... Unfortunately I made precisely the mistake that Lee mentioned and have now officially locked everyone out of the website myself included. Assuming I have physical access to the server that the website is installed on, is there any way to "fix" it and get me my old, default login page back?? |

wow Lee... fast reaction! thanks - and sorry to drag that thread into this one. More to the point, the SQL change didn't work (even though it DOES make sense), the uploadable page thing was irrelevant since I'm on 4.3.5 - the only thing that worked was the Skin-rename trick many thanks in anycase |

Hi Lee
I have created several new login pages but I am not able to assign a specific page as my login. My login and my registration page uses the page I have selected for my home page.
I created another new home page and called it a completely different name, thinking that the login and registration would use the old skin.
I uploaded my new page, whilst at the same time I edited my old home page skin to suit the login page (keeping the original page name) which I also uploaded .
I expected the login and registration to use the edited skin of the old home page, but instead they used the new home page.
How does anybody else set a page for the login, that does not mirror the home page and without creating a specific page on the site?
Thanks

Hi Lee
By basic whinge is that I need to allocate a simple skin with perhaps a static horizontal housemenu and no side menu for the login and register pages or find a way to get them to use my custom menu.
Because my top horizontal site menu is using just CSS (not housemenu) inserted inside a text/html module and although I have set the module to be on every page, it does not display on the login and register page and instead I am left with a large white empty space, which is the problem. Although I am currently also using an Inventua side menu (BTW I have since widened the page and the side menu no longer squashes down on the register page). I intend to remove the side menu from my home page and replace it with a marquee, hard coded into the skin (I did buy a marquee module but it didn’t work). Consequently this would not be suitable for the register or login pages, plus they would not have a menu.
I have noticed another odd thing, when viewing the site using FF the styles from the FCKeditor don’t show up correctly. For example after viewing one of your skinning videos I took your suggestion of adding a top line for SEO located at the top of the page. This line is indented to be unobtrusive, but in FF it is massive.
The URL is www.a2zdom.com, I would appreciate any suggestions, as I am still working on this site.
I will upload my latest login page and email you with details, maybe you can can find a way to reset it, thanks for the offer.
Lynn
Thanks

Hello
Just in case anybody tries to change Login skin in 4.3.7
- I created a custom skin intedended for Login and FTP'd new skin.
- I created 2 new Login Test pages using the new skin and added the Account User Module to the "ContentPane" of both: Site Login1, Site Login2.
Making both pages accessible from the main menu for test purposes.
- I logged using both new Login pages for testing, they both worked fine and looked ok using the simple skin.
- I logged in and changed Site Login1 to "Site Login" and kept it accessible from the main menu.
- I made the Site Login2 hidden and navigated to it via Admin/Page to test
- I opened Site Login2 and went into page settings.
Page Name: Site Login2 Page Title: Blank Description: Blank Keywords: Blank View: All Users Page hidden: enabled Page skin: LoginSkin
- I changed the page name to Login so that I might then allocate this page as the site login
On 'Page Update' prior to: Admin menu / site settings / advanced settings / Page Management I was back taken to my Login page but the skin had reverted back to default (Home Page Skin) and the Breadcrumb displayed: Home as the current page but the address bar was Login.aspx.
- I logged out and when I logged in as normal the Login Breadcrumb read: Home as current page.
- I navigated back to my new Login Address bar: Login.aspx. I opened site settings:
Page name: Home Page Title: As per Home Description: As Per Home Keywords: As Per Home View: All Users Page hidden: enabled Page skin: As Per Home
- I changed the page skin to: LoginSkin, Updated page and found that on Update the Login page was now using the new LoginSkin.
- I logged out to test.
- My Login Page was new using the new LoginSkin but so was my Home Page
- I navigated to my unofficial Login Page I decided to delete and start again (as I had not yet set it as official Login via Page Management)
- However, on delete I found that I had also deleted my Home Page. (Now Restored)
It seems that the Home Page and Login are one and the same.
Regards
Lynn

Hi Lee
Thanks for going to so much trouble.
I had a look at your site and I see you have a sucessfully created a grey skin and container for the login and grey skin and blue container for the registration.
I am begining to suspect that perhaps this odd conjoining of skins might be due to a bug in 4.3.7, I have asked in the main form but so far no body has answered.
It would be interesting to view your Login Page site settings, as admin. Thank you.
Regards

Posted By leesykes on 19 Dec 2006 11:19 AM Hi Lynn,
The site is using v4.3.7 - you should have received an email with your login details
Thanks,
He Lee
No I didn't receive an email.
However, I didn't expect to find one, as things changed automatically and I did not actually reach this stage to activate new login: Admin menu / site settings / advanced settings / Page Management
I think I will just accept it as it stands, perhaps when I next upgrade, it might be ok.
Regards
Lynn

Hi Lee
I looked at your site setting and noticed that you had not set a specific page for site portal.
When I looked at your settings for your login in was just Login and not Home page as mine states.
I decided to have one more go.
I created another page and called it "Logintest" and assigned the skin and account login module. After testing that it worked I renamed it and called it Login.
Once again the skin automatically changed but not to the skin of the home page but the to skin of my main site page. But time when I looked at the page settings it was not the home page but the setting of the main page of the site.
I now had 2 pages named login I opened the Login/Home and set the page to hidden (as at least I knew that it worked.)
I deleted the second extra Login page.
Disaster!!!.... I found that by deleting the 2nd Login I had also deleted the main site page and all the children.
Plus my Home page had gone too. I was left with just the site Login.
I eventually got in and restored all pages from the recycle bin. My home page had taken the settings from my Login and was now also hidden. (Login/Home no longer hidden)
I now have 2 pages named "Login" (both using the wrong skin)
I am not going to try to change this again. Too Scary !!!
