My coworker was working on a child site (dps-ts.com/mcvi) and says he uploaded a container (which looks remarkably like a skin when I FTP'd in) and crashed the whole site!

Now all we get is "Service Unavailable" when we browse to dps-ts.com and dps-ts.com/mcvi. He was logged in as Host and was supposed to be on the child site when this happened.

Is there a way to over-write some files or something to get the site back up?

I think this site is running DNN v4.8.4

You may be able to go in and delete the skin and/or containers that he uploaded. Just delete the entire directory ... or directories.

If the problem was a skin, then that ought to get things to a state where the site will load. You'll likely see an error that says the required skin couldn't be loaded. Once logged in, change the skin back to what it should be.

Thanks for the suggestion. I deleted all of the directories that contain skins and containers not native to DNN and that did not get me back in.

Should I delete anything else? i.e. the _default folders

Hmmm ... what is the exact error message? Can you copy and paste the entire thing?

Not a whole lot of help there!

Start with an index.htm file in the root folder.  If that is served, then rename it to app_offline.aspx and see if it is served.  If both of those work, then the problem is narrowed down to the DotNetNuke application and then you can start from there.

Neither of those files worked. Does this mean a total rebuild?

Something must have synchronized and NOW it's complaining about the skin. I've never been so happy to see an error!
