Hi there, Has anyone created, or plans to create, an avatar module for DNN. We would like to offer our users a chance to upload and assign an avatar to their profile in the “manage profile” section. This avatar would then be associated with their blogs and forum posts. I’m wondering how difficult it will be to move the avatar tools from the Forum module and incorporate them into the “mange profile” section. Thanks in advance for any help.

Version 2.3.1 of DotNetNuke adds this capability to the user profile.

Hi Joe, Thanks for getting back to me. I am running version 5.2.2 Community Edition of DNN and am not sure how to activate this functionality. I have seen the avatar option in the forum but not in the user profile. What am I missing? Thanks, Donovan

That functionality was introduced in 5.3.1 (I mis-typed in my reply). You will need to upgrade.
Bear in mind, too, that this is very new functionality. It's probably not available to all modules, though I haven't tried it that much.

Thanks Joe, I'll install 5.3 locally and give it a try. Have you heard of "Active Social" (
http://www.activesocial.com/)?
Seems like it may offer what we're looking for but with no trial and a hefty price tag it seems a lot to pay simply for users to have an avatar on thier blog and forum posts.

I am a real fan of ActiveSocial. The ActiveForums component is the forum module that is used here. Active social adds groups, profiles, friending, private messaging and a few more things on top of that.
The new features in DotNetNuke include an improved profile with avatar/image and private messaging.
I don't know if ActiveSocial will be modified to use the now built-in functions, or not. ANd, I don't know how long it will take for those things to migrate to other modules.

Thanks Joe. I've dropped them an email and will see about giving it a trial under their 30 day money back guarantee.

Hmmm... installed 5.3.1 and although there’s support for an avatar in “manage profile” it doesn’t seem to tie into either the forum or the blogs. The blogs are still slaved to Gravatar and the forum still requires you to setup an avatar through “My Settings > Profile >> Edit Avatar”. Active Social looks like it may be the only option we have.
