I have a dilemma that I'm quite certain there's a solution for.

I have heavily customized the resource files for, using the language editor. There's a new version of the module that will require an upgrade, but when I do this it's going to overwrite my custom language files, which I've spent a lot of time on.

How can I perform the module upgrade without losing these custom resource files, with the intention of adding any new resources manually to ensure collaboration with new additions to the module itself..

I got a hint from a developer, but they're hard to get a hold of sometimes..

"For the resx. files, this one is a bit hard to deal with, what i can suggest is to create a new language which can be a US language, so in the future, it will not overwrite the languages you have done. Note: you still have to manually check if there are new updated values provided on our end and you need to copy them to your own languages files."

Can someone bring light to this subject?

My thought is a little bit different. I would make a copy of the module's .resx files and save them. Then upgrade the module. Then copy the saved resource files back.

Bear in mind that the upgraded module may have changed the layout of resources in the resource files, so you may have to do some cleanup. But, it will be better than starting from scratch.

To be on the safe side, I certainly recommend making an copy of your site, installing it in a non-production environment, and test the upgrade process (and the resource file replacement) there. That way, you won't be damaging your live site in the process.
