Hi I would like to know what 3rd party module is suitable for a multilanguage DNN site. What I need to have on my site is a choice of several languages e.g. EN, FR, IT for the visitors of the site ... Can somebody advice me some tutorial about this issue ? (I haven't found it in DNN issues ) Or simply give me some hint what I should do, where to start Thanks a lot

DotNetNuke has multiple languages as a standard feature. Look on the Admin and Host menus for "languages." Host can enable languages, and there is a skin object that can be used to choose a language. There seem to be a number of languages supported, and it's possible to add a language, provided that you provide the localized text.

This doesn't mean that the content is translated automatically to multiple languages, though.

I know about that standard feature - but when I instelled it, it gave me the option to choose a language only when I was loged in as admin or host ... It's probably because i haven't enabled the feature as a host for all visitors ...
Let's say I enable it - how can i manage the translation of the pages and the menu of the site ?
Is there some tutorial for this issue pleas ?

I don't think that you'll find any modules that do automatic translation.

I did some quick googling and found that there are some multi-language modules. Google "DotNetNuke Multi-Language module" to find the links. I don't know anything about these modules, so I can't recommend or not recommand any.

Let us know what you find, and what you find useful. I'm sure that others have the same sorts of questions.

What I need simply to do is :
After an visitor has the ability to choose a language - everything (including menu, modules, text, pages ... etc) should be translated to the choosen language ...

I try to start from another end
When I install a new language pack to the standard feature of DNN - it will install into the directory "admin\Skins\App_LocalResources\" new files (e.g. User.ascx.sk-SK.resx - when I install the slovak language SK)
With this as you said before I'm able to choose from EN or SK language in DNN. (the range of translation may differ because of the limited capability of the translator ... ). But this feature doesn't give me the ability to translate the menu of the site or the content of the site ? or am I missing something ?

When you point out the direction I should go : which files should I create, where should I place them, what else should I do to achieve this goal I would be very very happy ... that's all I need to know

I would suggest that you take a look at modules from www.apollo-software.nl. They offer modules that will help with localization, including localizing the menu.

I'm not aware of any module that will translate content for you. You'll have to do it yourself.

Several of Apollo's modules support multiple language versions of content.

The web site refers to supporting DotNetNuke version 3. You should probably ask if they support Version 4.x.

I can translate it by myself - but i need to know what files should I change/create where I should change/create them atc...

But there's no user manual how to use it, no tutorial what to do - so it will take me quite a while to figure out how it works (I browsing only the related forum). Changing (translating) tab names, module names is quite simple ... but I have to figure out have to translate the text in the text/HTML module as well + I would like to have a token for choosing the desired language instead of an DropDownList of languages
something like EN | SK | US | IT | etc ... A lot of work for a beginner like me ;-(

If some of you guys could make a short tutorial about this module (or some other that does multiple language support)- it would be perfect

I am looking for the same, and everything points out to www.apollo-software.nl. You can download a module called Multilanguage HTML and use it instead of a standard HTML module. The advantage is that you can fill it with text in English and in any different language you have installed in your DNN. When you change the language, the text also changes.
The problem is with Menu which you can change installing a skin from their webpage but together with MLLanguage Selector and and Apollo PageLocalization modules which are not for free.
If you have something new regading this subject please share with us here?

i have the same problem that i want to create site with multi language but i cannot understant if the Multilanguage HTML is for free or not and i want to know how to translate the content of the text/html module by myself and without using new module or this is not possible?

Hmm, I've been investigating this as well as I need to set up a multi language website using up to 10 languages. so far the apollo software system is looking like the best option. I'll report back on how it goes. in the meantime if anyone finds a good solution for this let us know Could be one for a future issue of dnn creative
