I am 57 years old and want to learn to build websites. I have seen many recommendations about using DNN and it seems like a CMS program that will make it possible for me to learn how to do it. I am a subscriber to DNNCreative and it is wonderful for the sheer volume of information and the way you present all of that information.
I have purchased web hosting space and an IP address to practice on. I have successfully installed DNN there. But want to load a copy of DNN on my machine at home to work on locally, for faster responses and to, hopefully, make for an easier learning curve.
I am desperate. I have spent at least 10-12 hours over two days trying to install DNN on my PC – without success.
I followed the instructions in your video to the letter and the installation has failed consistently at the same spot.
I even went so far as to uninstall MS SQL Server Express 2005, Uninstall IIS, delete all the DNN files, etc., reboot my computer, and then reinstall everything. Still no success.
I am working with Windows XP Professional, Version-2002, SP2 . I have a 1-year old HP with 80GB of memory, AMD Turon 64 Processor, 1GB RAM, etc. I am still using IE-6 (have not upgraded to IE-7 yet).
> After installing IIS and configuring as instructed.
> After configuring ASP.Net 2.0 as instructed.
> After installing MS SQL Server Express 2005 as instructed
> After loading the DNN files, and updating the permission, the security and settings, etc.
When I go to do the actual install of DNN using http://localhost/DNNchuck (that’s what I called it for me to know I’m there)
It gets past the first screen and says that TYPICAL installation and use ENGLISH.
Then it gets to the screen to test the FILE PERMISSIONS which works fine
Then next for the Configure Database Connections – KABLOOIEE – it fails.
I have pasted the error messages below. (I got these messages both times. The second after I had uninstalled, deleted, etc everything and tried to do it again.)

Configure Database Connection
You can configure the database settings used by DotNetNuke on this page. If you are installing DotNetNuke in a "Hosting Account" your hosting provider should have provided you with the information.
There are two options for SQL Server 2005. SQLServer 2005 supports the use of Database Files. In most situations you should choose the Database option, but if you are using SQL Server 2005 Express then you should use the File option.
|
Select Database: |
|
(X)SQL Server 2005 (Express) File |
( )SQL Server 2000/2005 Database |
| |
|
Server: |
[ ] |
Enter the Name or IP Address of the computer where the Database is located. (if using Oracle enter the Data Source (SID)) |
|
Filename: |
[ ] |
Enter the name of the Database File (located in the App_Data Directory) |
|
Integrated Security: |
[X] |
Check this if you are using SQL Server's Integrated Security, which means you will be using your Windows account to access SQL Server. If you are using SQL Server Express then you will most likely need to check this option. If you have been given a UserId/Password to access your Database, leave this unchecked, and provide the UserId/Password combination. |
|
Run as db Owner: |
[X] |
Check this if you are running the database as Database Owner - if left unchecked you will be running as the User ID specified |
|
Object Qualifier: |
[ ] |
Enter an optional "prefix" to use for all your database objects - this helps ensure that there are no object name clashes. |

If you have any ideas on what I need to do – PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
If you can talk to me on the phone – I do have SKYPE and can call you that way if you would be willing.
Sorry for such a long post, but as you can imagine, I am terribly desperate to find some way to make it work. I want to learn this! I want to make it work.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
