Hello,
I'm currently building a website that has quite a complex page structure. I want to be sure to have SEO friendly URL's, and I also want to have a clean menu structure.
The website sells musical instruments.
When I create a page, I am given the option to set the page name and the page title. For an example, I create a page named "Folk Instruments". The associated URL DNN creates would be...
www.yandasmpa.com/FolkInstruments.aspx
I can change the "page name" to "folk-instruments" for a resulting URL of...
www.yandasmpa.com/folk-instruments
Which is way more SEO friendly.
The problem is... If I name a page "folk-instruments" then my main website mega menu will show "folk-instruments" instead of "Folk Instruments" which is not User friendly.
As it stands, it seems I have to choose between a Menu friendly page name or SEO friendly page name. Is there a way I can name my page "Folk Instruments", but have a URL of "folk-instruments"???
I hope this made sense! Thanks!
Alex

Any tips anyone?
Is it possible for me to set up the mega menu so that it calls up the menu structure and links from a file, instead of the dnn page listing?

I suppose that you could do something at the XML/XLT stage that throws away the input entirely, read a file, and processes that instead.
It might be easier to use the Razor template, and steal the js and css from the mega menu template.
In other words, use the Razor parser to produce something that looks like what the Mega XSLT would have produced, and then use the Mega js and css files to complete the job.

Thanks for the reply Joe. I am not familiar with the Razor template. How would this menu template solve my issue? Would I be able to statically set the page name and url's?

The DDR menu works by creating an XML block that contains the menu structure. What the various templates do is process that XML to produce a block of HTML that is the rendered menu. Then you use css, javascript and jQuery to style the menu and produce the other behaviors that you need.
My thought was that you could use the Razor template to basically ignore the XML, read the contents of a file and render that as the menu. If you rendered something from the file in the same format (and with the same classes created by the Mega template, it would be possible to use the css and js from Mega with your HTML output.
If you visit the DotNetNuke wiki at DotNetNuke.com, you'll find more information about how the menu works and the templates that are available. There is also some (similar) material at dnngarden.com.

You could use packflash SEO to create your URLs manually. Or one of the other SEO URL managers.
