I have a DNN 5.6.3site with several portals on a production server I have full access to.

I have downloaded a copy of the site and database to a local win7 workstation. I have created the site in IIS and sqlserverexpress along with the necessary permissions...I think.
upon accessing it through IIS it takes me to the new install setup page.

I have tried to install it but cannot access the portals.

I have tried adding mysite.com to the hosts file and associated it with 127.0.0.1

I have tried adding an alias "mysite", to the portal alias along with an entry in the hosts file.

I am still redirected to mysite.com on the internet.

I found the video on backing up a live site, it looks like it should help me out.

I still cannot seem to find success with this.
I am using dnn5.3.1 on an IIS 7.5 on a win 7 workstation.
I followed the instructions on the video as well as I could although there does not seem to be a wizard for installing the virtual directory.

on first trying to run this I get:

so i go back to IIS and tried a number of things including add application,convert to application it all seems to end up with an error when i hit the test settings button that says I have an "Invalid application Path"

After configuring the application and trying to run or browse to it I get the default DNN installation wizard that wants me to configure a new site.

Please help me out here if you can.

I reconfigured and tested and determined that there was a sql user issue, I made a new user and adjusted the web.config etc and i am up an running.

Lets see if I can do it twice.....
