Hi folks, I'm trying to help my aunt with her DNN-based newsletter (URL at bottom if interested), currently it's laid out roughly like this:

top ad banner
content
bottom ad banner

The ad banners are implemented using DNN's banner module, which displays a row of randomized images for each advertiser. The problem is each banner can only randomize its own ads, so the same ads always appear at either the top or bottom of the page, and the advertisers at the bottom don't like that!

Is there some way in DNN to have multiple banners that all draw from the same pool of advertisers, so that everyone has an equal chance to be displayed at the top? Any advice would be helpful and thanks much!

I doubt that's possible.

However, you might be able to create a "module" that draws randomly from the Banner module's data tables and displays more than one banner at a time. This would be helpful if you are using the commerce or record keeping part of the banner module.

Approach #1 depends on the fact that the Banner module's source code is available. You could create a second "view" for the module that produces multiple banners in the view. Coupled with some clever use of jQuery, you could move them into their desired positions. Doing this inside of the Banner module means that you could keep track of the number of times a banner is displayed using the tools already provided.

Approach #2 would use a Razor module to take advantage of the data structures and methods available in the Banner module to produce the second "view" and also do the accounting. Joe Brinkman has a blog entry that shows how to use the Form & List module to create and maintain some data tables but uses a Razor module to do the display. Kind of like #1 but wouldn't require making a custom version of the Banner module.

Approach #3 would use either Form & List or Reports or the XML module to display the banners.

These ideas are off the top of my head and I certainly haven't worked out the details. But, I think that the ideas are in the realm of something that could be done with a moderate bit of effort. But all of them require some programming skills and familiarity with the DotNetNuke framework. You might have to find someone with the skills to do the work. Order of magnitude is that this is 2 to 5 days of work.

I should have also mentioned that if you don't need integration with the Vendor setup, you may have some easier choices.
