Relative newby here...

I have a number of 30 MB to 40 MB files that I would like my customers to be able to download from my site. I had setup links to the files using the Documents module and I received many reports that the file download would not run to completion (say 20 out of 30 MB downloaded). I switched to using the Links module but this does not seem to be doing the trick either. Any suggestions on a reliable approach to this problem...

You need to config your web.config with something like this:

Sorry it did not "catch" the code:
{httpRuntime useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl=true maxRequestLength=8192 ... }

And the maxRequestLenght must be greater than max file size you have (e.g. =406460).

For les than 40mb it will be maxRequestLenght=40960, and my experience says that you need to add something more to work properly like: executionTimeout=XXXX !!! (XXXX is value in seconds (expected duration of transfer so your web aplication wouldn't stop and cancel this job)).

Did those settings help?

If you provide your users with just a URL direct to the files can they download them?

On DNN Creative I don't adjust those settings for downloads, I adjust those for uploading files. For downloads, I just enter the URL directly into the documents module rather than select the file from the list.

As mentioned in the documents module tutorial I also host the downloads on a separate server to give more reliable performance for the users.

Thanks for the rapid response. I have implemented a temporary workaround by placing the files on an alternate server and linking to them from my dnn portal. I did open up my web.config but have not pieced together the placement of the suggested additions.
