Hi. I have set up a web site in a hosting environment with a temporary url and it works ok. When I call the web using the new url it apears OK but exchanges the new url for the old, but everything is working ok.

As soon as I change the url in the setting of the HTTPAlias field in the PortalAlias table in the database ad put the new one in, the web hangs i.e I just dont get any responce. Changin the HostURL in the HostSettings table seems to have no effevt on this but I have changed it to the new url.

Is there anything else I need to adjust or set? Any Ideas?

Yes you are correct that you need to adjust the portal alias settings. Make sure that you do not add http:// to the beginning of the web address it just wants to be: www.myaddress.com

Changing a post URL in the host settings will not have any effect.

But, you will need to change the settings within your hosting provider. Have a look at this URL and the diagram: DotNetNuke and Multiple Portals

You need to ensure that the new URL is pointing to your DotNetNuke installation files.

One more thing you may want to do if changing the PortalSettings.  If it doesn't work, stop and restart IIS (if you have access to this).

You can use the following in a command window (Start->Run->cmd)

iisreset /STOP

then when the command prompt returns, type:

issreset /START

Sometimes IIS gets confused when URLs are changed in the PortalSettings table, or in the DNN Admin/Host pages.  By stopping and restarting IIS, I've found that it fixes this issue...
