I want to host my new DNN site in GoDaddy.com. What are the procedures for restoring database?

That's something that you'll want to get from GoDaddy's technical support staff.

In recently attempted to set up a 'sandbox' site on a GoDaddy hosted domain. The performance was so sluggish, I had to cancel my account.

I love GoDaddy, they have great service, I have a couple of classic HTML domains hosted at GoGaddy, which I'm happy with.

The installation of DNN went well, it is streamlined and automatic. However, response time is measured in minutes. When I attempted to install a (third-party) shopping cart module, it aborted three times after timing out. Tech Support told me I had to improve the code to get better performance. Apparently DNN optimization requires specialized skills. Maybe you need a dedicated server.

I anybody's running a production DNN site at GoDaddy, I'd sure love to see it.

Unfortunately the support rep that you spoke to at GoDaddy is wrong - while DNN does take up quite a bit of server resources, it is extremely efficient and well coded (the reason it is resource intensive is because it can do all kinds of stuff).



You will definitely want to re-contact GoDaddy's technical support or consider putting your website on a hosting provider that specializes in DotNetNuke. If you are interested in changing, I'd love for us to host your website with us.

As a matter of fact, my production site is hosted at PowerDNN. The performance and support are excellent.

I was just looking for an inexpensive 'sandbox' site where I could test new Web pages and third-party modules before deciding to install them in the production site. GoDaddy has a $5/mo. deal, but I guess you don't get what you don't pay for.

I finally bit the bullet and installed IIS/SQL Server/DNN on a local PC. It only took five attempts and three days.

BTW I think the GoDaddy Tech. Rep. was referring to the performance of the third-party module I was trying to evaluate (not DNN per se).

When a new module is added to DNN, DotNetNuke actually handles the install. If it was a problem with the module you were using, the module would have issues once it was installed. In your case, since DNN is timing out when trying to install the module, it is definitely a hosting issue.

Hi - I've had mixed results so far with GoDaddy. Their expertise seems to be more Linux based - at least with the basic DNN questions I had with their hosted products. I'm now trying their virtual server - the $40/month package. I, too, am setting up a sandbox. Depending on performance, this may be my production server - easy to upgrade, so I've been told.

I ran some basic bandwidth tests on the server - speedtest.net. The response is on the order of magnitude for my static DSL package that runs me about $70/month.
