Image Uploader slow

Whenever I go to upload an image and click on the browser server, the uploader takes a really long time to load in chrome, and times out in IE. Could this be due to the fact that there are a ton of files on the server? If so, is there a way I can speed it up. Perhaps upgrading to a newer version?

Which version of DotNetNuke are you using? When you say "ton of files" ... how many and do you use directories to organize the files? If you need to upload a number of files, it may be easier to do this with FTP or via a Remote Desktop connection to your server.

I never use the fck uploader for anything. I always ftp, but this site is for a non technical user. I'm using 04.09.05.

There is no one file that is huge, but I noticed the whole directory was 85 M. I had the client go trough and clean it up to resolve the issue.
