After two weeks of trying to upload my localhost site to a live site, I thought I had it all sorted...but to my dismay it is still not displaying. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I've gone through the Tutorial and followed the directions to the letter. I've battled with my Webhost to get permissions correct and have overcome database issues and http-404 errors. Now I finally have my domain resolving only to get a placeholder page that says:
"If you see this page after uploading site content you probably have not replaced the index.html file."
I have checked my file manager and I cannot find the index.html file.
Please help! |

Are you sure you have uploaded your files to the correct folder? for example hpptdocs, wwwroot. |

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yep, uploaded files to httpdocs folder. I'm concerned that it is looking for the index.html file...for DNN, shouldn't it be the default.aspx file that displays? |

Do you have access to the IIS? can you provide the URL to your website? which control panel od you have cPanel, Plesk? It's really hard to figure out this kind of problem without having acces to the hosting server. |

This definitely does seem to be an IIS issue.
If your host is not able to resolve this for you promptly, it might be time to do with a host that understands DotNetNuke. PowerDNN, iHost, and 3Essentials are hosts that do know DotNetNuke. There are others and I only mention those 3 because I have direct experience with them.

Control panel is Plesk...the only IIS feature is IIS Application Pool, which is disabled. URL is www.woombyesoccer.com. I don't have a choice with hosting providers, this is the clients choice. Host has suggested uploading the files again. |

Your site will not work, if IIS application pool is disabled, , enable the IIS App. Pool in Plesk, and configure your web.config file correctly, I still have doubt that you have uploaded the site in wrong folder, if this is not the case, ask your hosting provider to setup your website, it's their resposibility. Good Luck... |

Is your site Properties in IIS > Documents > Enable default content page set to "Default.aspx"? Emerson ^_^ |

So, after going back and forth with the webhost, they tell me the problem is : "This is a very strange issue localised to the Internet Explorer browse. Your site shows up correctly under other browsers I've tried which seems to rule out the server as being the cause of the problem. I've actually managed to fix IE so that the page shows correctly. What you need to do in Internet Explorer is click Tools -> Internet Options and then click the Advanced tab." Well, I use Google Chrome, so obviously it isn't localised to IE. The only browser I can get it to show in is Safari and then as soon as I rename the app_offline.htm file, I get a DNN "Under Construction" page...does anybody have any suggestions? Also, on the IIS issue, they tell me I have a shared pool, does DNN need a dedicated pool? |

Yes, I can access the data in my database. The web.config file is setup with the correct connection string. I'm wondering if I'm not better off just trying to do a fresh install of DNN on the live site? |

If this is not a large site, you can do a fresh install and start from there.
Since you have the backup from your localhost environment, you might want to try this in a couple of steps. First do a fresh install on your host and get things to work. Then, Export your site from the localhost (including content) and Import those files to your hosted site.

It sounds like your host is not used to working with dnn. Dnn requries default.aspx to be the default index page, as opposed to the usual index.htm or index.html, which it appears your site is looking for: "If you see this page after uploading site content you probably have not replaced the index.html file." I think the first thing you need to do is get the host to enable default.aspx as the default index page. I have seen this error message myself when setting up a new DNN site on our servers.
