I am using DNN 4.9.4 with the Source. I had many errors due to missing import statements and I have fixed all of them except for one. The file: App_Code/Iframe/Providers/DataProviders/SQLDataProdier/SqlDataProvider.vb does not know what 'SqlHelper' is. This is because an imports statement "Imports Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data" is invalid. There is no "ApplicationBlocks" in the Microsoft name space. I have checked and the DLL is referenced in the project, and the dll is physically there, but intellisense shows only Csharp, SqlServer, VisualBasic and Win32 under the Microsoft Namespace. However, I can see Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data in the object viewer! I don't get it. Can anyone help me with this? I have attached 2 screen shots.. Thanks in advance..

I've had much more "luck" opening the install version and running it inside of Visual Studio. Unless you are working on extending or modifying the framework, there's no need to use the source version.
This is sort of the process that I follow (see the book by Mitchel Sellers and Michael Washington's adefwebserver.com site):
1. Install DotNetNuke and configure it "normally" on your localhost computer. That means getting it running, creating a default site, etc. before even looking at VS.
2. Open the site with VS and "debug" run it.
3. Now install the component that you want to work with. Usually this will be a module.
If this way won't work for you, please let me know exactly what you are trying to do, and maybe there are alternate approaches.

Joe, I have the site running and I have installed add-on modules and made my website. I now need to add some custom new pages (that do DB functions etc) to the website. This is why I opened the source so I could add my own pages. I don't want to change the DNN source really. Do I not need to recompile the whole thing to add asp.net code to the website? Maybe I am beating my head for no reason and heading down the wrong path?

I suspect that what you want to do is add modules that will do the additional DB functions. Exactly what do you want to do? It may be that there are modules available that will do what you need, or it may be that you will need to create some additional modules. You can do the latter without recompiling the source. But, with more details, I may be able to make a more appropriate recommendation.

Joe, I just re-read your answer, more slowly this time, I understand what you mean now. Can I simply use the source version and remove the framework from the project so I have nothing but the website and go from there? Thanks, Chris

I would still recommend using the Install package. But, you can open the part of the Source package as a web site. Once you have set it up, you can open it for debugging. The Mitchel Sellers and Michael Washington resources detail this fairly well.
