Hello Everyone, brand new to DotNetNuke and DNNCreative and I am really enjoying it so far

Have a questions concerning my localhost installation.  I currently have IIS 7 on Vista and I'm running my localhost under port 8000 and when I access my dotnetnuke installation I go to:

localhost:8000/dotNetNuke

and it works just fine.
 
However if I go into Portal Aliases under Admin>Site Settings my HTTP Alias is:

localhost/dotnetnuke

which is wrong.

I tried adding the address with the new port number to portalAlias, but I keep getting The Portal Alias is invalid.

This causes a bit of an issue when I access the portals under Host because when I click the link for portalId 0 it goes to a "Not Found" page.

Is there another way to change the Portal Alias?  Or am I missing something?

hello,

When you add a portal alias, do not add http://, so when you enter your URL it should be:
localhost:8000/dotnetnuke

I have been entering it in without the http:// but no luck... is there somewhere in DNN that I have to specify the port number?

that's odd as I tested entering in a URL in the format you specified and it accepted it.

Are you doing this for an already existing portal, ie:

Go to admin / site settings
Click on Add New HTTP Alias link

enter url

Well, I came up with a solution that should have occurred to me sooner.

I have an Apache server running on my system under localhost's default port, so I had to install IIS under another port (8000).  For some reason this caused an issue in which I was unable to change or add to the Portal Alias under Admin's Site Settings.

Few things I tried where
- make sure I did not have http:// when entering the address
- manipulate the physical database in SQL Express to change the HTTPAliais field
- Edited the web.config to include the line: add key="UsePortNumber" value="true"

None of the above worked, so I simply switched port numbers, Apache runs on port 8080 and IIS runs on the default port (80).  

This seems to have solved my problem, but I would still like to know how why I couldn't get Portal Aliais to include the port numbers.

Figured I should post this in case someone else ends up in the same situation.
