I am having a problem getting images and icons to be visible. I did a DNN install to my localhost and the images and icons on the default page are not visible. I then downloaded a live site to localhost (using the excellent DNNCreative videos) and have gotten it to work, but again,-no images. If I paste an image path directly into the browser address (ie C:\inetpub\wwwroot\GenkvetchLocal\Portals\0\logo.gif) it is visible. Not sure about what to do next. TIA |

Is your browser set to display images? Do you get the "broken x" that indicates it can't find the image? |

Right click on a broken x and then select Properties to see which image is supposed to be displayed. Then check that URL in the browser. That might give you a clue.

I did what you suggested. Right clikcking the x gave me an image path. The image is present at this location. If I copy the path to a new browser window address bar the image displays. |

Hmmm ... I'm wondering if there is a setting in IIS that doesn't send the images unless you ask for them explicitly. |

Just to repeat: DotNetNuke is generating the correct links. So, the issue is either with IIS or your browser.
---------- Or with something else. Perhaps a security software, popup blocker, etc.

Am getting similar results with IE7 and Firefox so not likely browser. I disabled Windows firewall & popupblocker but that did not help. Is there any test I could do for IIS? |

Hi Joe, One thought I had is that it is a Net Framework 3.5 vs 2.0 issue.
I'm not sure how to check whether this is the problem. Can you suggest how to do this? Thanks- steve |

Thanks for suggestion. I will try this but apparently need to upgrade my vista from home premium to business first. PS- I am now following you on Twitter. - steve (genkvetch) |

Hi,
I finally got it to work. The problem was a permissions issue. I am running Vista. When I select the filename and right click Properties>Security tab, there is a dialog box that says Group or User Names. Apparently I was supposed to choose NETWORK SERVICE, but this wasn't in the dropdown list. I didn't realize that if you select Edit and actually type in 'NETWORK SERVICE' it will then appear in the dropdown list and be selectable. Once I did this and allowed full access to NETWORK SERVICE, everything worked fine and all images and icons were visible.
Thanks for your help, and I hope that this post will help others with the same problem. |
