Hi,

I have been following the DNN setup and install videos to install a localhost version of my DNN website on a XP Pro virtual machine.

Everything went great (SUPER videos Lee, Kudos!) until I went to restore my database in SQL Server Express 2005.  I get the message that is pasted below.

The DNN version on my live site is 4.8.  The DNN version on my localhost is 4.93.  Would that cause this problem?

Any insights appreciated!  (The Microsoft help links it provides go nowhere)

Not sure how you are attempting this, you need to make sure you follow the steps exatly the same as the video. Are you trying to install your live site to localhost? If you are you need to take a copy of your DNN install files and use them on your localhost, you can't use  a DNN 4.9.3 install and just restore a copy of your live database for v4.8 over the top of the install.

Thanks Lee. OK, trying to understand this...I am pushing the envelope on my skills, so please forgive the newbieness... I first installed DNN in Win XP per your video. I followed it to the letter, except that where you installed DNN 451, I installed 493, because that is what was available on the DNN downloads page. I then followed your first two videos on "Transferring Live Site to Local Host". So, that included the FTP copy of all the DNN files from the live site, which is v. 484. Is copying that www directory what you mean when you say "take a copy of your DNN install files and use them on your localhost"? I have done that, as specified in the video. So, this is where my understanding falters. At this point, should my dowloaded database be compatible with the installation? Or, does the fact that I am using 493 make it impossible for me to use the downloaded database? I would appreciate your advice as to how to proceed. Big Thanks! - John

ok, what you need to do when you install live to local is create it as a new DotNetNuke installation.

So, just to make sure you have everything running correctly, I would first of all create a second local installation using 4.9.3 - just to make sure that you have understood the concepts of how DNN is installed. This will then show you that you can have multiple DNN installations running on your computer - and they can all be different versions of DNN.

ok, so once you have fully grapsed how you can have multiple DNN installs on your computer you can then apply the same principles to the live to local version.

When you install you live site to your localhost you will be running v4.8.4 for that particular install
