At installation time using your video for installation with vista and sql express 2005, after the Permissions tests were success, the next step tests the database connection. I could never choose the choice you ask to tick. I had to  check the other choice (second choice) to obtain success.

Every time I am adding a new installation, after a success database connection, the Database upgrade window loops with a message saying  Undefined..... Success...

Would it be possible to post a copy of the error message?

At which point in the installation does this occur?

Which version of DotNetNuke are you trying to install?

I think that before starting the installation that:

• You need to create the database, and
  
• you need to enter the database name.

Also - if you are using SQL 2005 Express, you should check that button.

As you can see when I checked the second choice I have a success connection. When I tried to use the first choice I have an unsuccess connection.

So I am a little confuse since the video stipulate to leave all the default settings as is.

I need to create a database name using the first choice (express file )or second choice (Database).

And why the express file choice do not work for me as it does in the video.

The first installation works well this way, it is the second that do not pass.

If, in the second installation, you try to use the first installation's database, I can see where there might be trouble.  Each installation should have its own database.

Any idea why I can't use the sql express option and here's there a video or tutorial I can use to setup the database name ?

I did not have to specify a database name using the second choice. What name has DNN's installation used ?

You will find some very detailed instructions here, and you'll find a version that covers just about every option.

As for SQL Server management tools, use the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.  You can find it and download it for free from Microsoft's website.

I don't understand why you are getting these problems, if you followed the video through, including how to install SQL Server Express then everything should work fine.

These instructions are for a fresh installation of DotNetNuke.

If you are installing to localhost with a SQL Server Express database, a database is already created for you in the DNN installation files, it is located in the  app_data folder and there should be a Database.mdf file in there.

As long as you have not edited the web.config file it will by default be set to link to the local database in the app_data folder.

I never could use your basic installation as stipulated in your video. The second option works fine, I have done additional installation usign my own named database.

I"m still curious with it's not working.

At times like this I create a fresh Virtual PC, install just the necessary programmes - following the settings that are outlined in the tutorial and then try a fresh installation of DNN. This ensures that there is nothing else interferring with the install or programme conflicts etc.

Could be worth a try if you want to get to the bottom of the problem
