Hi - We are a small cricket club based in Knutsford, Cheshire who, approx 3 years ago, had our website ww.toftcc.co.uk implemented using DDN v3.2.0.  and ASpnet client 1.1.

We use 1and1.co..uk to host.

We have been and still are able to update but need IE6 platform to view and update text fields. We dont have experience / knowledge to update in html language. When we use a PC with IE7 installed we only see html and would prefer to view text.

Suggestions please - Do we upgrade DNN as most PC's now using IE7 and to maintain support (tho the site and DNN has been stable).  - If so to what DNN version,what ASPnet version etc etc  and are instructions available as the person who implemented this is no longer with the club.

Can we / how do you setup a TEST environment so that we can see it all working on a PC before we upload to the domain?

We need to keep instructions reasonably simple to follow

I don't have a lot of experience with V3.x of DotNetNuke, and what I do know has been dimmed by the passage of time.

But ... before deciding that you need to upgrade, are you really sure that you need to upgrade because you are using IE7?  The current version of DotNetNuke's editor has a radio button that switches between WYSIWYG and HTML modes.  Are you sure that this option isn't available to you?

[Now, I do recall that the default editor changed somewhere in there, so there really might be a problem, but let's not jump to that conclusion.]

Have you tried looking at the site with Firefox?

I'll also write to you privately in the event that you want to give me temporary administrative access to your site so that I can see the problem for myself.

Yes, there does seem to be a problem with viewing the editor on your website with IE7.  I asked around about this and learned this:

"I recall that that was an incompatibility between the version of the FTB (FreeTextBox) editor and a security patch that was added to IE7 by Microsoft. The fix was to either upgrade DNN (I think but cannot recall with certainty that DNN 3.3.7 was OK.) or switch editor providers from FTB Editor  to FCKEditor. Try a Google search on FTB+IE7 and you'll find quite a few posts dealing with that issue."

So, it seems that you have several options:

• Upgrade to DotNetNuke 3.3.7 or a later version.
• Continue to edit your site with IE6 (it is possible to install IE6 and IE7 on the same computer)
• Download Firefox and use that to edit your site.

If it were me, I'd probably download Firefox, and try to remember to use that for your site's edits.

or, you may be able to install the FCK editor as the text editor instead of FTB.

I would create a backup of everything before you attempt it, but here's a tutorial that may help:
