I have got the order to upgrade an existing website, which still uses .net 1.x to latest web technologies. I am thinking about using dnn. But as I see DNN still uses .net 2.x.

As I have to use the latest version of .net framework, what will happen if I configure dnn to use .net 3.5?

Especially I will have to use some third party modules. Will it affect the funktionality in some way?

What are you recommanding me?

DotNetNuke is compatible with .NET 3.5. Once you install the upgrade and get to the current version (4.9.2 is recommended), you will find a link on the Host Settings page that, when clicked, will configure DotNetNuke to use the "latest" version of .NET.

I am going to develope the application locally first and then put it on the production server. Once I try to open it in vwd it asks if I will want to convert the .net version to 3.5 or not? Should I do that? I mean is there sommething speaking against or for it?

And my last question: Why do not use dnn v. 5.0?  Sorry for so much questions, I want to plan it very correctly from the beginning to prevent further problems.

I think that "converting" to 3.5 is only for the local installation of VWD.  And, it really doesn't matter.

As for versions, 5.0.0 was the first 5.x release.  There are a number of bugs.  5.0.1 has been released and has fixed many bugs.  The folks at DotNetNuke Corp. suggest that you wait for 5.1.0, as they expect that to be "stable" for production usage.  I expect that to be out before the end of April.

So, if your development doesn't anticipate going to production before then, I wouldn't hesitate to develop with 5.0.1 and hold off for going live until 5.1.0 is available.

I must be blind, where about is it in the host settings? I've just tried moving to 4.9.3 and ASP.NET 3.5 to work on a project that requires 3.5.

when I change all my web.config setting to use 3.5 I get a whole host of javascript errors whenever a javascript postback is attempted.

Well, I thought it was that way.  Maybe this is only present in 5.x?  Looking at a couple of test sites that I have, I see they are all using .NET 2.x.
