Newbie question and I am not sure whether to ask it here or in the modules sections, but since it is not module specific maybe this is the best place.

I am looking at experimenting with writing my own "hello world" module. Having looked at some of the tutorials available online it looks challenging but worth having a stab at.

My question......

All the tutorials I have found on creating modules refer to setting up DNN from the "Starter Kit" and not from the "Install". Does this mean that an installation from the "Starter Kit" provides functionality for module creation which is not available if I setup DNN from "Install"?

The starter kit is intended to be used with Visual Studio for module creation. If I remember correctly, it provides some VS templates fpr a "web site" and not necessarily for modules. It's not necessarily the best way to go -- and I say that simply because the serious developers I know generally don't advocate using it.

If you are serious about module development, check out Michael Washington's adefwebserver.com site.

Also do some research on WAP and WSP approaches to module development.

Chris Hammond's blogs (one is at ChrisHammond.com and you'll find other links there) is a good site to study. Chris and Engage Software have released a set of VS "templates" to help build modules.

You'll also find good information at Mitchel Sellers' site, mitchelsellers.com.

Following Lee's suggestions, I'm studying Open Web Studio. This is a followup product to ListX. This seems to have a rather steep learning curve, but seems to have some powerful features.
