Please HELP!. Something happened to my DNN site and all of a sudden I can't Manage Users or Add any New Users. When I select these options either nothing happens (add User) or I am redirected back to my home page (manage users). I can't add or edit from the Edit Security Roles page either. Is there something I can change (or re-install) without overwriting my current member directory info (user names and passwords. I am using Firefox, but I have the same problem when I try in Explorer (10). DNN version 7.00.06 Many thanks in advance. |

Were there any changes made before this started? Can you get to the Event Log (under Admin)? Are there any errors? (If you cannot get to the Event Log, use SQL Server Management Studio to look at the EventLog table in the database). Can your host provide tech support? |

Also check in your browser to see if any javascript errors are occurring. With IE, use F12 and then start debugging javascript. |

Thanks for your answer. I didn't notice that the User Accounts Module was not working anymore until the hosting company moved it from the development to production site yesterday. I originally thought that was the cause, but then I checked the dev site and saw the same problem there to. It could have occurred anytime in the past 2 weeks. I did change some of the "User Accounts" settings and cleaned out some old files during that time (maybe I accidentally deleted something that should not have been deleted?). Unfortunately I do not have a backup to compare it to (long story). Anyway, the hosting company suggested a minor upgrade to the latest DNN version (7.1?) but that did not solve the problem. They do not have an answer for me. I checked Admin->Event Log but did not see anything there. Also nothing in Host Settings-> Logs. |

Thanks for your reply...I don' see anything under Event Log->Admin (or host->Logs). I tried to check for javascript errors but I don't really know what I'm looking for and it kept shutting down on me. I have asked my host but they don't know what to do so I am really stuck!! Some other things that I have noticed: I don't have an option Admin->User Accounts. Do you know what link locations to these modules should look like? I think they are incorrect in my version but can’t find any documentation to verify- for instance when I hover over the menu option "Users->Add New User" it just shows the url for my homepage. And when I hover over “Users->Edit Users” it shows “/MemberSection/BoardMembersOnly/UserAccounts/tabid/42/Default.aspx. I don’t have SQL management studio but I can run simple queries from Host if needed. I don’t know really (I am a newbie here) but it just sounds to me as if something has been corrupted in the database. Can I update the database entries to fix the problem? Or, is there any way to just reinstall the “User Accounts” module (or “Users and Roles”?). Any help is much appreciated!!

It does seem that something is really screwy! You should have a page under Admin named User Accounts. Use Admin, Page Management to see what pages you have. The User Accounts page should have a User Accounts module on it. You can create a new page (I'd place it under Admin) and add that module. That should give you a user management page. |

I created a new page under Admin, but when I go to add the module I can't find it...should it be called "Roles and Users" or "User accounts" ? I don't have either of those under Modules.

When I try to re-add the module to a new page I can't find it .I choose Modules->Add New Module->All Modules, but I don’t see a "Roles and Users" or "User accounts" Module. When I look under Admin->extensions there is no "user accounts" or "users and roles" extension installed or available. Under host->extensions "users and roles" IS available (version 7.1), but when I click on “In Use=yes” nothing comes up. Questions: 1) What is name of the “Core Module” in DNN version 7.1 that I am missing - it is “Roles and Users”? 2) Where can I find a .zip file of the “Roles and Users” Core Module for 7.06 to reinstall?

Hi! I'm having a somewhat similar issue as in not being able to add new users to my site. I am able to see the "User Accounts" page. I should probably mention that I am using DNN 6 and the problem appears in all the browsers I have tried: Chrome, Firefox, IE (10 and in compatibility mode). Have you found any solutions for the problem? Thank you in advance! |

Hi Darius - I did find a solution. I ended up buying and installing a new User Administration Module from the DNN Store then added it to the admin menu. It is called "TanLD User and Role Membership" and it is pretty much exactly like the "Roles and Users" module that is documented in the user manual but no one could tell me where to download. It was only 19 dollars, but it makes me mad that DNN makes you buy stuff now that used to be free (also that their documentation is so lousy) |

Stephanie, You shouldn't have to buy things to achieve the functionality built into DNN. The DNN Users and Roles module should have been installed when you installed DNN. Did you have the problem on a new install or after an upgrade. Most likely, it's relatively easy to fix the problem that you were having. Just provide some more details. |

Darius, Would it be possible for me to take a look at your site? I can probably diagnose the problem and tell you how to fix it. |

Yes, of course! The website is: http://blog.zombiepandemic.com/ I am just afraid I cannot give you any administrative credentials since it is not my website. I really hope you can help me with this! It's been driving me crazy trying to fix it! Darius PS: The problem appeared out of the blue, for some reason. I haven't made any upgrades to the website in the past 6 months. |

Joe - I had already given the details of my problem in the thread above. Your answer was to re-add the "Users and Roles" module. As I did not have that extension available anymore (and no one could tell me where I could find it to re-install although I did ask specifically), after an extensive search I could not find any 'free' core module available for install so I ended up purchasing the above-mentioned module. Stephanie, I'm sorry that I didn't provide the correct information to you. Here is what you can do to get an installable module for Users and Roles: 1. Download the Install package for the version of DNN that you are using. 2. Install this version on a local or test environment 3. Go to Host, Extension and edit the Users and Roles module. 4 At the bottom of the page, click the Create Package link, then click Next until the module package is created. 5. The module package that is create now can be installed in the installation that is missing it. 6. After installing, the module can be added to the page or pages where it is needed. |

Hi, Joseph! I have been looking into the problem over the weekend and it appears that the captcha on the registration page might be broken. Whenever I try to register a new user, the page refreshes as if the code I entered is incorrect. Does this make any sense? Darius |

I managed to fix my problem by restarting the website from IIS manager and now it works fine. I have no idea what made it brake down, but now it works fine! Thank you for your help! |
