I installed a blog module, added some test entries, tried creating various other blogs under different names, etc. Then, I deleted the module and installed another one.
All of the history is still there. Except, I don't want it. Is there an easy way to reset the module?
If I can't do this in the application, is there a way to open the dnn database in SQL Server and make the edits?
Thanks. Alan

I don't see (with just a few minutes of looking) and easy way to delete an entire blog. After deleting the blog module, though, you could go into the database and delete all of the tables that have to do with the blog.
And, you can do this in SQL by going to the SQL tab under host settings. You'll have to understand the blog tables (I looked once and it wasn't that hard to figure out, but there are some linked tables). |

Oh, it looks like I may have misinterpreted the original message.
If he simply deleted the blog module from a page, then yes. He should uninstall the blog module (from the Module Definitions page) and reinstall it. |

This sounds like an excellent solution. However, I have a problem. When I signed up the host account was set up as host and I was forwarded a password. However, when I try to log in as host I get a message that says " Login Failed, remember that
Passwords are case sensitive".
When I try to send the password to by entering "host" or "Host" into the I get his message: "Username does not exist."

I imagine that I need access to this host account for a variety of reasons? I can not find a way to create a new cost through the admin account. Any suggestions?

You can have only one host account, I think.
Perhaps your hosting provider can provide you with that password. If not, you will have a doozy of a time managing your site. But there is a solution if you can access your site's database.
In the Users table, change IsSuperUser to "true" for your administrator's account. That will give the administrator host privileges, too.
You can then create a separate host account with superuser privileges.

Hi Joe, Thanks for your help. I have a SuperUser Account, so I logged in as a superuser and was able to access the Host > Module Definitions page. I deleted the Blog by following the instructions, but then found that I was not able to reinstall it because I do not know where to access the blog module for installation. Also, I tried to create a new host account, but I'm not sure that I was successful. I created it on the Host > Host Accounts Page in the User Accounts module, and these results now display: However, when I try to login, I get an invalid password. Interestingly, when I ask for the password to be emailed, it is successfully emailed, but with ****** as the password. Regards, Alan |

Doanload the Blog Module from DotNetNuke.com. You'll find it in the Downloads section. You install it from the Module Definitions page.
If you are creating accounts and the passwords aren't working, then you have a more serious issue on your site. Have you upgraded and not transferred the Machine Key successfully? |

Hello again,
My learning curve continues. Thank you for your help.
I was able to succesfully download the latest blog module, and the earlier version. Both of them validated when I ran the validation test. Both of them return this error message when I try to install it, "Invalid File Extension For Custom Module DNN_Blog.dnn"
The host account appears to be created okay. It just does not send me the password, rather it sends the asteriks instead, probably as a precaution?

I have a feeling that you didn't install the correct file. You should select the ZIP file for the installation. Review How to install a module to DotNetNuke for more help. As for the accounts, your installation won't be able to send you passwords if you've selected the default installation that hashes passwords. They are store in a form that prevents them from being unencrypted. I thought that you said you had created a new account but couldn't log in. |

Hi,
I was able to install the blog successfully. Thank you.
Re the host account, I can see how you would develop that interpretation.
Perhaps I was confused because for other test accounts, the password is sent in clear text. Perhaps the host account is set for hashing, and the others are not.
Thank you.

For anyone else who might be following this thread. When I reinstalled, I was momentarily frustrated because I received an error, "Edit Entry is currently unavailable."
This
exception is caused by an invalid character in the "EditEntry.ascx"
control file. This file can be located following this folder path:
wwwroot\DesktopModules\Blog\EditEntry.ascx
1) Open the EditEntry.ascx file using Notepad or the File Manager.
2) You should find the invalid character on line 21. Look for the string containing "ResourcêKey ".
3) Replace the "ê" with a standard "e".
4) Save (and upload) the file.
This should correct the error and allow you to Edit or Add new blog entries again.

Is this error still present? I had thought that would have been fixed.
If you did download and install the latest Blog Module, that issue should be reported to the DotNetNuke team at the DotNetNuke website. |
