Currently, I think the Text/Html module only sends the Module title through RSS.  Does anyone know how I might edit this?  I really want it to send the contents of the whole module (what is typed into the RTE), not just the module title.  Almost seems pointless to RSS just the title.

I'd guess that you'd have to rewrite the syndication part of the HTML module to achieve this.

But ... what are you trying to accomplish? There might be other modules other than HTML that can do what you need.

I work for a school district.  We have several of our schools going live tomorrow with DNN Child portals.  They would like to syndicate several modules.  Daily announcements, general news, teachers have assignments, etc.  I think they like that they can control the format with Text/Html vs using a different module like Announcements or something that forces the format.

The problem is, if they syndicate a text/html module for daily announcements (for example), the user who wants the feed only sees the module title on their RSS page.  We want them to see all of the content on their RSS page so they don't have to go to the site to see it... this way if they have one page where they are accepting RSS for all the different things they care about, they can read it all right there... not have to keep leaving their RSS site to go to the school site to read the info.

I rambled, but does that make sense?

Actually, you can put full HTML into Announcements.

But, after writing my note to you last night, I set up a Text/HTML module to syndicate its contents as a test.  I got the full text, and I've changed it with a longer message to see if there is a limit.

How did you set up a text/html module to do that?  Would it be a new module to add to my list?  Or can I (should I) change the core text/html module to do this?

There is a check box in the Modules Settings for every module that says "Allow Syndicate?"  If you want that module to syndicate its contents, just check the box.

But ... read How to create an RSS feed!  Lee notes that the TEXT/HTML module probably isn't the best choice for regularly updated feeds and archives, and he offers some possibly better choices.

Ok... I read the tutorials and I set the main article on my home page to syndicate (www.littletonpublicschools.net). However, when I set it up to feed into my RSS page, all I get are the first few words of the module... Is there a way I can make the feed show the whole text/html contents?

I found the same results when I tried it. I assume that the module is programmed to syndicate only the first line or so.

I'd recommend that you might want to use something else for your particular application. You might want to try the News module. If you're interested in going the route of purchased modules, you might also want to take a look at Ventrian's News Articles module.

I will check out those other modules. However, do you have any idea how I could just edt the RSS code on the Text/Html module to make it send the whole content? It seems there must be a page (as aspx page?) where this is being defined that I should be able to edit what its pulling.

I'm sure that you could dig into the code to do this. I'm not sure that you'd WANT to do it, though. Instead, perhaps you might want to get in touch with the authors of that module and ask where do do it.

If you are going to setup RSS feeds I would really recommend the news articles module www.ventrian.com, the time it will take you to delve into the code of the text/html module will probably pay for the news articles module.

The news articles module is set up much better for RSS feeds and will provide a module which can handle your site as it expands and grows. - We use this module for the RSS feeds on DNN Creative.
