Active Forums will no longer be offered with the debut of DNN 6.2 which is promising to integrate Active Forums and Active Social. The real question is what will be offered in the different DNN editions?
Like any commercial offering they start at the top of their stack with the greatest of great features and whittle them down until they get to the community edition which has much of the core functionality but is limited in many ways (generally speaking from limited experience).
Until 6/2 Active Forums remains available for purchase and is highly utilized across the DNN landscape (ie - DNNCreative.com). While some wring their hands over future support if AF is no longer available after 6/2 it has a solid reputation and I would rather risk purchasing it now then risk getting a defunct, watered down version available in 6.2.
I have not been able to find time to preview DNN 6.2 CE RC and am seeking your feedback. Have you previewed the latest version? With regard to the 'new' forum what is your reaction when comparing it to the AF versions previously available?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Dan

I haven't really previewed it, but my understanding is that pretty much everything except the "Mail Connector" is in the Community Edition. And, it's tightly integrated into the core. Many of the features of AF and AS now become core functions. I think that I'm quite a bit more optimistic regarding those developments. DotNetNuke has made "social" one of the three cornerstones of the product going forward.

I haven't previewed DNN 6.2 RC either (nor, by default, the AF Beta module). My understanding from posts at dotnetnuke.com is that the new AF module in CE will, as Joe says, have everything but the Mail Connector plus it will have been tweaked to include the new social features in DNN 6.2 - see
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources...-Beta.aspx
One thing that should be kept in mind is when support for the current paid for version will expire and what happens after that.

I have read and understood all of what you have understood. I hope (and I mean hope) that everything but the mail connector is there but until you test you don't know for certain. Understand sales will be discontinued but support is 'suppose' to be available... I was hoping that with all the AF users/customers that folks would be quick to test and compare the versions. I have never initiated AF so it wouldn't be a fair comparison but I'm willing to snag a copy if the CE version has been de-featured adding value to the commercial offering. (And I'm not finding fault with that, just making an observation common to CE vs Commercial offerings I have witnessed previously.)

Here is a good one:

This is from Robb Bryn. I sat in on his prestentation last fall at DNN World. Robb knows ecommerce and DotNetNuke, and I would recommend him as a good source.

I installed 6.2 RC and AF 5.0 beta and it appears to be there but I don't know enough about AF to know how it compares.
Hopefully someone has started testing and comparing as I'm sure there will be many needing to upgrade in the future.
What's the plan for DNN Creative?

There is a LOT of new stuff in 6.2, so setting up a test site and learning to use it is a great idea.
Also, look at DotNetNuke.com for blog posts about the new capabilities. Chris Hammond has also been posting some short video clips about some of the new features. A lot of the registration and messaging features that were part of AF and AS are new core capabilities.
I also know that the new version of AF and AS will not be upgrades but will be migrations. In other words, if you upgrade a site to 6.2, your old version of AF/AS will be there. If you install then new AF/AS you will have both installed. There are migration tools that can be used to move your existing forums, social groups, etc. to the the new modules.
I do know that some of the "heavy hitters" (i.e. names you'd recognize from the AF and AS forums) have had some good things to say about the direction in which these things are moving.
As for DNNCreative, expect to see tutorials on DotNetNuke 6.2. However, it doesn't make sense to start that until 6.2 is released and we know the actual features included ... even though there is a release candidate and features are pretty much locked down.
