Are there any modules that support these features?

- The potential to list search results via category (e.g. articles, publications, books, and events)
- Consideration for Advanced Search where you can search for a string of words vs. each individual word (AND/OR/EXACT) (preferably with a select option the user can use to select the type before submitting the search)
- Ranking – relevance should be given first should to items with search term in title, multiple times in body second
- Customize the display of results (include extra fields if necessary) for example if a document is tagged as "private", I can return that field in my search results, and when outputting the results, display an icon for those results that are private.

I probably have as many questions as answers:

Search by category: Where is the category information? You might want to look at the Taxonomy feature and tagging. If you are using something like Ventrian's News article module, I believe that there are some search my category features, but nothing site-wide.

Advanced Search: The DotNetNuke search module will search for multiple words. For more, you will need a different module, I think.

Relevance: The DotNetNuke search module does compute a relevance number.

Thanks for the quick reply. All of these questions are regarding a need for a custom search module to replace the default search module included in core.



I have gone through the default search and unfortunately it doesn't meet the client requirements

Search by category, what I mean is, their modules are categorized as articles, etc in the backend.

So for example, you add a dnnarticle, and in the settings for that article, you give it a category using Assign with Categories, and dnn_articles are currently only able to be labeled as an article.

So when the user searches, they can filter out only those results that have the category "article.



So for advanced, the custom search module would require the user to be able to search by some, all, or exact phrase.


For Relevance, I'm aware that the relevance number returned, is in reference to the number of times the words were found in the document text (1041 means 41 times). But what they need to do is be able to set relevance to be primarily on title, so if it shows once in title for one document but 400 times in the body text of another document, the one that shows in title will be have a higher relevance that the one that had 400 matches in the body text.


And finally for the custom output, it would need to be able to determine if the document was set as member or public in the result object or dataset, so that when I output the results, I can code in some boolean as to whether or not to show the private or public icon.
