I'm trying to configure the latest version of the Reports module to connect the the hosting providers MySQL database (my Site), however no matter what connection string i use it fails with the following error when i run the test connection button.

"There was an error executing the data source: There is no data source configured for this module, please configure one in the Module Settings page "

I can connect to the site SQL data base with out any issues and i have tried the ODBC connection & oledb data ADo.net data provider.
I can connect remotly to the database and execute queries using MySql Worbench that connects in using the ODBC 3.5.1 driver that i set up against the site mysql database.
I've tired the site url , ip address and vaious ID's that i know are valid, i've also tripple checked the connection string and refer to the connection string examples at www.connectionstrings.com.

I'm unsure where to go from her and would appreciate any assistance. I have recently upgraded to DNN6 and this may be an issue i dont know..

I did the following on my test installation of DotNetNuke 6.

Reports Module:
Active Data Source: Generic ADO.Net Data Source
ADO.Net Data Provider: Odbc Data Provider
Connection String: Driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};Server=mySQLServer.com; Port=3306;Database=C3086_joetest;User=myUserName; pwd=myPassword

With that, I was able to run queries on the database.

Thanks Craig you put me on the the connection string a few days ago and i'm using it to connect externally using MySql Workbench. I have no problems here now thanks to you, however using the report module i just cant get it to connect, I've even take a copy of the string you just provided just incase theres a typo inmine and amended the references to my database and user but the result is the same. I've even recreated the module on a test page, reset the database user pasword and confirm connectivity from within the web base tool set however the result is the same. There appears to be an issue establishing a connection internal to my web site and i'm unsure where to go from here. Are there any logs to check and if so where would they be located i'm looking for a clue as to my access is being denied.

I would check the EventLog table. Something should be logged there if the Reports module generates an error. Post the entire message here so that I can see it.

Here's the event log for one of the attmpts they are all identical so i only posted one, however the one thing i did notice is the data provider its using the sqlDataProvider nt mysql i dont know if this means anything.

Can you make sure that you really have configred not only the connection string but the other dropdowns? Save the configuration.
