Hi,
I set up a generic login for specific users to log into a microsite using the same userName/password. Once logged in, these users can register for an event. I used the FormandList module for the registration. Everything is working correctly, but after they click the Submit button, they do not receive the email notification.
In the form and list configuration, the "Enable Email Notifications" is checked. In the Email settings, I placed [Email] in the To: field, and "On New" is checked for the Trigger.
Is there something I'm missing? Or is it because of the way I set up the login? Please let me know if you have a solution or if I'm going about this the wrong way.
Thanks,
Sarah

Have you configured an SMTP server for the installation and verified that you can send email to addresses similar to those using your site?

Hi Joe,
The SMTP server has been configured, but I would like it to send emails to users with different addresses. Is that possible?
Thanks,
Sarah

Are you getting any error messages?
Take a look in the Event Log to see if anything is being logged there.
Often, SMTP servers are configured to deny "relaying." You may need to check that your SMTP server is configured so that you can send the mails. You may need to check with whomever is responsible for the SMTP server. If DotNetNuke is actually trying to send the emails, there ought to be logs at the SMTP server that can be checked to see what is happening.
Note that all of this presupposes that DotNetNuke is actually trying to send mail. The Event Log may help you there.

Thanks Joe,
I found the Event log and got these messages:
InnerException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay
Message: System.Net.Mail.SmtpFailedRecipientException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message) at DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.SendMail(String MailFrom, String MailTo, String Cc, String Bcc, String ReplyTo, MailPriority Priority, String Subject, MailFormat BodyFormat, Encoding BodyEncoding, String Body, List`1 Attachments, String SMTPServer, String SMTPAuthentication, String SMTPUsername, String SMTPPassword, Boolean SMTPEnableSSL)
I got the SMTP Server and port # from our Dev team. It works when I'm sending it to similar addresses as our site, but it doesn't work if the users address is different.
I have the SMTP Authentication set to Anonymous. And the SMTP Enable SSL is unchecked. It doesn't work if the SMTP Enable SSL is checked.
Do I need something different selected for the SMTP authentication?
Thanks,
Sarah

The key phrase is "Unable to relay."
What that means is that the SMTP server is not configured to send email outside of your domain.
Most likely this is because you are using Anonymous authentication. Because of that, the SMTP server doesn't know who the DotNetNuke sender is, so it refuse to send mail out of the domain. This is normal and prevents spammers from taking over the server.
Normally, whoever runs the SMTP server should be able to set it up so that you can use a username/password for authentication, and the server will relay for authenticated users. Check with your Dev team for credentials that will allow you to send the mail.

Thanks for all your help Joe. The Dev team was able to fix the SMTP server so emails are now sent outside the domain.
