Im researching for a client the possibility to make a not so common form of form/table that she can fill out.

Its purpose is showing generation descendancy of pet rats. Some cells need to be merged. Here is an example on this page, if you just scroll down a little bit.

How can i set up a form to allow the user to enter this information?
Any other suggestion on another solution?

I'd probably try doing this using rowspan if using an html table. Going from right to left, rowspan should double with each column.

If you are doing this in asp.net, it will probably be better with a gridview or something. I think that you can delete cells programmatically. I'll let you look up the details.

Also, Charles Nurse has blogged about a family tree project and there is some code at codeplex.com, but he doesn't seem to have made a lot of progress.

For display, you might want to take a look at ancestry.com to see how they do things.

I'm sure that you could do this with OWS or RAD, or you could do it as a separate module. The data part should basically be easy. You'd have a table for people and you'd have a table for relationships. For Relationships, each person would have a mother and a father and those would be links back to the people table. You'd also want a table for marriages. Then, you could build searches for things like children, siblings, etc.

Then you would need to build displays ...
