Thanks for the forum module tutorial - it came at the right time as I had postponed development of my site due to other projects but now have the time to revisit it. I like the design of the new version, it's much better than the old one. Just one question. I have set up a particular forum to be visible to a particular security role and that all works fine. However, ideally, I would still like the forum to be visible to all users on the forum list but not accessible to anyone without the required security role. At present, it doesn't show on the list unless the user has the required role. I have seen this on other forums but can't find a setting to allow this. Any ideas?

Actually, I was ahead of myself when I said all was working OK. When I try to start a new thread (as host) I get the following error message: Error: is currently unavailable. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.PostEdit.HandleTaxonomy(Boolean NewThread, Int32 PostID, Boolean IsPublic) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.PostEdit.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- When trying to start a new thread as a normal user, I get: Error: is currently unavailable. All the other modules appear to be working so I'm assuming this is specific to the forum module. Any ideas? |

OK, ignore my second post above! I tried setting up a forum on a test page and it worked fine, so I deleted the problem forum and recreated it. Don't know what the problem was but all is OK now. Just need a solution to my original question! |

And one more question: how do I change the date format from US format to UK format? |

You will need to download a UK English Language Pack, which you can do at DotNetNuke.com. Install it (Admin, Languages) and then set the default language to be UK English.

Many thanks, Joseph, it's no wonder I couldn't find a setting anywhere! Any ideas about my original question in my first post? |

Going back to the language issue, I downloaded and installed the pack and set the default site language to English (UK) but the dates are still displaying in US format. Any more ideas please? |

Is the UK English text being shown? "Having added a language, you can then set it as the site
default (for new users) by setting it under Admin/Site Settings/Advanced
Settings/Other Settings. This will then set this language as the
default for new users. Logged on users can set their language in their
Profile.
Users who aren't logged on will have their language set by
their browser settings. In IE this is Tools/Internet Options/Gernal
tab/Languages" |

Thanks again, Joseph, I've learnt a great deal about language settings, not just in DNN but in IE as well! The profile language setting was the problem and I've now got UK dates, cheers! |

One more question please! Since setting the site to UK English, the page links have reverted back to those long versions with "tabid/76/language/en-GB/Default.aspx" on the end. How do I get back to the short versions? |

The "short versions" are also called friendly URLs.
From some brief googling, I see that "other languages" do seem to cause problems with friendly URLs. Unfortunately, I'm hardly an expert in this area. There may be some third party modules that can help( ifinity URL Master, for example). You might also hope to see some improvement with upcoming versions of DotNetNuke.

Because you are going to use only one language, see what happens if you disable US English.

Referring back to my original question, I see there is a perfect example of what I mean with the forums here. I can see but not access the UK DotNetNuke User Group forum. Is it possible to do this in the core forum module? |

So it's not possible in the core forum module? |

For a definitive answer, I'd try asking the Forum Module team on their forum at DotNetNuke.com. But, as best as I can tell, the answer is no.
