I have a somewhat complex query I need to do - goes something like this:

Say I have a table with multiple columns,  two of which are userid and viewcount.  I want to grab just one record per userid where viewcount has the smallest number value.  i.e. User A might have 50 records, user B 10 records, user C 5 records, and so on. I want one of User A's records, one of user B's records, and so on and the record I want for each of those users is the record that has the smallest viewcount out of all of that user's records.  Viewcount is a running total of impressions so once I have retrieved those records I need to add 1 to the viewcount.  Any idea of how I could do this?

Does something like:

SELECT min(viewcount) where UserID= myUserID

work?

min(viewcount) is part of the answer so thanks for that. As I read it Userid=myuserid would return a record belonging to the requesting user?? I need to return min(viewcount) for each unique record owner in the table.

Don't worry about replying - this is one question I should have researched in the SQL resources out there rather than bothering forum members for the answer. I answer a ton of questions over in the Xmod forums so I should have known better. Sorry.
