Hello,
I've got the basics of creating custom templates to be used within the FCK editor in the Text/HMTL modules. What I'd like to know is this:
Is there a way to define the CustomTemplates.xml file that can only be used on a portal by portal basis? We have a host that has 30+ portals (and growing), and I would like to have the ability to create templates that are unique to each portal. In the tutorial, the xml files that were edited were in the root of the DotNetNuke installation...which means that changes there would affect all portals (is that correct?) rather than just affecting, say, Portal 26.
Thanks in advance.
-David.

I'm not aware of a way to do what you want to do.

Well, bummer. I guess then that FCK templates are only valuable at the host level, which is problematic if a skin uses a completely different layout that doesn't fit with templates defined at the host level.
I suppose I could create generic enough templates using common divs and classes, and then allow the individual portal / skin.css files control their appearance.
Ideally, though, it would be nice if there was a variable in FCK that provided the path to the current portal. Then, you could simply place the CustomTemplates.xml file in the individual Portals and the path would be built dynamically when the FCK editor was initialized on the page.
Would there, by chance, be such a variable that's already part of the FCK editor?

I may have typed without thinking about this enough ...
Have you looked at the "Custom Editor Options"? You can define the look and feel of the editor and apply it to the "Portal" and those changes will apply to everything in the portal -- not to the installation.
I really haven't dug into this (perhaps Lee will chime in). I would also suggest that you ask over at the forum at dotnetnuke.com.

ok, I have been giving this some thought and my initial reaction was the template will apply to all of the portals.
However, here are some ideas:
This is the current code for finding the templates XML file.
FCKConfig.TemplatesXmlPath = FCKConfig.EditorPath + 'fcktemplates.xml' ;
How about placing the templates.xml file within the actual skin folder?
and then find the piece of code that will direct the path to the skin folder. From looking around the fckconfig.js file I have found:
FCKConfig.SkinPath
Perhaps this may help?
So this may give you some pointers for finding a solution, if you do let us know as I know that everyone would find this useful - thanks,

Thanks Lee and Craig for the replies.
Lee,
I'm going to investigate the FCKConfig.SkinPath variable you mention, though on first glance in the fckconfig.js file, it looks like it would reference the current FCKSkin, rather than a portal skin. If that were the case, as long as you could limit a particular FCKSkin to a particular portal, that might work.
I'm going to look into this further, and I'll let you know if I'm able to find a solution.
Again, thanks for the replies.
