Hello Lee and Joe,
My question deals with the automation of modules with their data. What I am trying to do is create a template for a picture gallery with white squares (that will turn into the pictures when real picture files are uploaded to the proper place.
I have created a page with some demo pictures in it. I want to give the capability for members of our website to upload their own pictures into the gallery in a controlled way. I have figured out a good way to do this however the question is in regards to automating the process of this picture gallery so that one would not have to manually create sample pictures every time a new member needs a gallery.
I guess my thinking is in the lines of copying, but not just copying a module but the data in the module. I don't really want a reference type of situation as I know you can do as admin by going to
from exisitng module
option and than
add.
Rather I want a copy scenario as is found when you create a new page where it allows you to either have a module of the copied site either
new, copied or referenced
I want it copied but more importantly I need the data that was contained within the page I set up to be a template as such to be also injected into the module not just an empty module liek the one on the page I want a carbon copy of but actually the data so it can be used appropriately.
Of course I would to ensure that the path to the pics were refrencing the right folder and that probably would need to be done manually but it seems like their has got to be some automated way of transferring modules with the data contained in them to another page without referencing them so it is actually a copy and hence what ever pics is decided to be put into the copied gallery won't effect the pictures from the page it was copied from.
I know that is a lot of writing here but if you have any idea how to do such a task that woudl be most helpful to me thanks.

sounds pretty complex, not sure if I completely followed it, but I think I get the general idea. if I was approaching this I would probably do it with SQL queries. - you should be able to create a ' reference module' with data included and then create SQL queries to copy that reference module and its data. - when you work out the SQL, you will then need to find a way to incorporate automating the execution of the SQL - perhaps through the creation of a module.
I can't give you any tips on SQL or module development, but this may steer you in the right direction, thanks,
Lee Sykes
