i have dnn installed on my computer. i am creating a web site locally.

my question is, after i finish creating my website, is there a way to copy it to a server.

or do i have to recreate it on the server?

There are going to be many ways to answer your question but I'll tell you the way that I have done it.

First my host always loads the DNN zip files to my directory for me. It saves time. Then all I have to do is DL and adjust the release.config file and change the name(web.config), upload it, delete the release.config file and log on. The install runs and everything should be ready to go. I have a index.html file "under construction" that I use to upload. That way everytime someone logs on the index.html file is ran and I can backdoor into the site and work on it, the website, live without anyone messing around. When I have it, the website, done all I have to do is delete the index.html file.

I have the same DNN install unzipped on my hard drive that I can use for testing. This is very helpful when dealing with 3rd party modules because in most cases support is almost non-existent.

The key is to always keep your live install and hard drive install VERSION in sync. Otherwise you may find a module works on one but not the other.

Make sure you sign with a HOST that knows DNN and just isn't offering it. If you run into support issues you may find a HOST that knows DNN will be a huge asset to you.

Finally, the new release is not a actual RELEASE but a beta. Make sure you use a stable version or you'll pull your hair out. More on that in other posts in this forum.
