Hi,
First post. Noob to both the forum and DNN. Going to start a project for a client next week (I'm the front end developer, not the DNN developer) and am trying to learn up quick! I rely on body classes quite a bit to set the display of elements when building sites. Particularly on dynamic sites, it allows me to use the same exact HTML across pages but change the display as needed depending on the page.
In most other CMS/blog/forum/dynamic wackiness software I've come across, there is a way to set a dynamic body class based on some hook - either the url or the pages relationship to other pages on the site. I can't for the life of me figure out a way to set this I think largely because I'm still a little unclear on the DNN paradigm.
Can anyone offer me a clue? Honestly, I'm not even sure where to begin.
Thank you,
Will

I suggest that you start reviewing the tutorials available here. In particular, the tutorials that have to do with Skinning should be of interest, but you should also review the introductory "concepts" tutorials so that you get familiar with how DotNetNuke works. Let us know as you need help.

Thanks Joe.
I have been and will continue to rtfm, promise.
Still haven't found the answer I'm looking for. I'm not sure if you were politely trying to tell me 'it doesn't work that way pal' or just pointing me in a general direction because I'm obviously still so green.
Some one on another forum suggested I might be able to do something like this:
< body class=” ” >
Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. That looks like it'll give me two different classes which is useful for class="news newsitemID" or "products specificproduct".
Body classes are just so dang handy for clean front end code.
Thanks,
Will

Will,
I certainly wasn't telling you to "it doesn't work that way." But, I think that you would profit greatly if you were to step back and get your arms wrapped around the notion of how pages, modules, skins and containers work in DotNetNuke. Once you have a good feel for how the various css files work, etc. this will be much clearer. Hopefully it will make sense, too!
And, if you would like some advice on which tutorials to watch first, I can make some suggestions. But, if you read the titles, you'll quickly figure out which are basic, which are intermediate, and which are advanced. Do the basic one first!

In the XHTML template tutorial in particular it discusses how to reset some of the DotNetNuke CSS stylings. - this is one of the key elements that you'll have to deal with when CSS skinning in DotNetNuke. - Hope this helps you to get started, thanks,
