I have gone through and downloaded DNN, SQL 2008, and VWD 2008. I was able to create the template site on the local host. How do I save this project with changes, and return later to keep playing in the local site?
Thanks,

Since the content of the web site is stored in the database and the web directory, it should be there the next time you start the project.
Perhaps a larger issue is why you are using VWD at all. You only need to do this if you are planning to modify code, create new modules, etc. Instead, you should just create a new website with IIS, and point it at your web directory. Then you can browse to the website and use it. |

I read/watched that I need to use VWD, since I have XP Home. Is this correct? I am going to upgrade my computer this month, how does Vista work with IIS and DNN? Any recommendations on operating system requirements?
We have used DNN for a year now, but I have just started digging into what DNN really is. Very intereting and useful for a small-medium sized business.

Oh, I'm remembering in the back of my mind that XP Home might not have IIS? If so, then you'll need to use VWD because of its built-in webserver. Yes, you can run DotNetNuke on Vista, too. You'll want to use a version of Vista that includes IIS 7. There are differences between IIS 7 (Vista) and IIS 6 (on XP Pro), but you'll be able to do it. I found this fairly quickly, but I haven't tried it yet. |

This might sound stupid, but what is IIS? I will check on the versions of Vista that have it. Is there a video module on this site that helps with this?
Thanks for your help,
Scott

IIS is Internet Information Services. A quick description is that it is the web server that runs in Windows. |

It would appear that you aren't pointing the IIS web site at the correct directory.
Try putting a file named App_Offline.htm in that directory with a message in it. If you've got the website set up correctly, you should see the content of that file, and not the DotNetNuke site. That way, you'll know that the web site is correct or not. We can go from there. |

I was playing around and got alittle farther along. Remember I am not a developer...LOL...I realized when I go to users or groups to add "asp.net" under the security tab, I do not have an option to add asp.net. How do I fix this?

Yes. Michael Washington's site should be on everyone's list of great DotNetNuke resources ... |
