urgent problem with upgrade fail

Hi, I have just tried to upgrade a DN install from 4.4.1 to 4.6.2. I did a local install first to check all was working. I had to remove 2 modules to make it work correctly. When I finished the upload when I tried to access the site I got nothing it didnt even leave the page I was on before. The blue progress moves very slowly but never gets to the end. I have removed all the files and uploaded the origional files back and I have still got the same problem. I have no error messages to work with. PLEASE PLEASE help this is a live site and I need to get it back again. Regards Roger

When you took things back to the original state, did you also restore a backup copy of the database? (The upgrade process also modifies your database.)

I did restore the backup; however I have continued to try different fixes. I have found that even if I upload a simply .aspx file it fails to load. I have called my hosting company and they have confirmed that for some reason which they are currently investigating the .net is not working. It may just be a coincidence that I was upgrading at the time the sever went down. This has yet to be confirmed and I will keep you posted. Thank you for your quick response. Best Regards Roger

You can double check this if you put a file named App_Offline.htm in your website's root directory. Just put the text "Application is offline" in the file.

The site is back up and running now. It looks like it was something to do with what I did when I was doing the upgrade. I followed the training guide from 3 to 3.2 and I managed to get this to work localy. I did have a few issues. When I uploaded the dotnetnuke.dll file the site gave an error ( this happened localy as well as when I tried on the live site. To get the site to upgrade localy I needed to change the web.config file to show "autoupgrade = true" when I typed the url it didnt work. I followed all the instructions very carefully so I am not sure why I had this problem. Are there any differances in the upgrade process with the later versions of DNN? I also had to remove the survay and dnnsite map modules from the old install prior to upgrading. Could I have left something in the web.config which might cause this problem. I do need to upgrade this site so whatever help you can give is great. Regards Roger
