Hi
I have copied my files to the server and followed the steps in the transfering tutorial. ( web.config, connectionsstring, user and pass should be ok)
But when I go to the url i just get this error message.(seen under) http://demo.irnorge.no
Is this message making some sence for anyone?
I would be very thankful to anyone who could lightening this challenge.

I assume that your site worked just fine on your local computer. If that's the case, make sure that you changed portalalias correctly. |

Yea, the site works great on my localhost. And I have added the portalalias: demo.irnorge.no since this is my url. I can't find something incorrect with my alias. Any other immediate suggestion?

Have you also set your DNS so that demo.irnorge.no points to this site? |

Yes, I understand. I also now see your app_offline.htm file.
If this works on your localhost, and (as you have demonstrated) the DNS is set correctly, then the issue would seem to be the portalalias or that there is a problem with the connection strings. Did you replace BOTH connection strings? |

No I had forgot to replace one of the connection strings.
After replacing this I the DNN installation wizzard appears when I go to the URL . (If I move the app_offline.htm)
Does this make any sense?
What should I do next? should i install it? |

Since you have the site working on a local machine, that means that you have a working copy. So, I wouldn't be nervous about breaking anything on your demo site.
Which connection string wasn't changed?
But, I'd just go ahead and let it try to do the complete installation. If it fails, I'd delete the database, delete the contents of the web directory and start over. If you have completely transferred copies of the web directory and the database, and if you've made the appropriate changes to portalalias and to the web.config (also check that you've moved machineKey), then all should be well. |

It was the second connection string I had not replaced.
This connection string is for the live sql server. I have got the path, user and password from the Server Admin. Afther he installed the database on the server and made users. I find the path a bit strange since it holds just the name of the database, its not really a path as shown in the tutorial. Should I just put that name in the connectionstring.
example: The path in the tutorials connection string is like this : (LEE-XPPRO-VWD-L\SQLEXPRESS\Databases\) c:\DOTNETNUKE SITES\IGFILM_DNN453\APP_DATA\DATABASE.MDF
The path I have got from my servers Admin's printscreen is in this style: ('name'\SQLEXPRESS\Databases\) C__DDN_451_IR_APP_DATA_DATABASE.MDF
Therefore I have just the C__DDN_451_IR_APP_DATA_DATABASE.MDF as the path in my conecction strings. Is this Right?
Can this be right?
Machinekey in webconfig. Should I delete the entire tag ? |
