I am having a recurrent problem. When I try to add a new portal to my instalation, it doesn't open, and it takes me to a "cannot find the requested page"  kind of message.  However, the aborted portals do appear on the portals list, but they don't open and I cannot delete them either.
My hosting provider said that it must be a problem with the program. To fix it, they unistalled the whole instalation and started a new DNN blank intalation. This happened twice, and I am having the same problem for the third time.
I would appreciate your help.

I'd guess that you don't have the portal aliases specified correctly. Could you provide details of your portal and what's in the portalalias table?

And, given the advice to reinstall and start over, I'd tend not to trust your hosting provider for DotNetNuke advice in the future.

I had painstakingly copied by hand all whats on the portals table, and all the messages I get. When I tried to submit the post I got this stupid message, and everything was gone: "A critical error has occurred. Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request. "
Now it is one in the morning, and I'll have to do it again tomorrow
I dont know if it's me, but I get failures even when I am trying to explain the failures. I am losing mi patience

It's very rare to get one of those messages. If you are copying across a lot of info I would suggest you paste it into NotePad first just incase. Thanks, Lee

The two on the bottom work properly. The other 3 don't work. I know that 2 of them don't have aliases, but I entered one when I created them. They also won't delete. If I try to delete them I get this message:

The only solution suggested by my provider is to delete the installation and start a new one. I am totally stuck because of this, I appreciate your help.

Joe, I finally was abe to discover why the portals were not coming out properly. It was because, on the portal set up, I was specifying templates that I purchased, not the dnn default template. When I specified the default template, the portals started to come out and work. Only once they are created I go to Site Settings and install the desired skin.
Does this make sense?
