I need help. I've been working on a site for several months. I'm using DNN version 04.06.02. I have several article modules, using version 03.02.06, the news feed module, the latest forum modul and blog module 03.03.01. We were just about ready to launch and tell the world about us when suddenly Wednesday morning all the article images were gone. One article was completely broken. The site logo was no longer showing and the News feed was no longer using the appearance file. After my initial panic I realized that everything was still on the server and I just had to go to each item and reselect images and settings. It was a twenty minute fix. But why did it happen.

At first I thought it was the Amazon Widgets I had installed the night before so I deleted all of them before resetting everything. But then this morning the same thing happened. The amazon widgets are not there any more and I made absolutly no changes yesterday. Last night I looked around in a few admin areas but canceled out. This morning after putting everything back I checked the events and discovered general protection errors had occured in admin authentication, right about the time I was looking at that. I didn't notice any errors at the time and the site was working when I went to bed.

Again, it only took 20 minutes to get it all back but now I afraid to it's going to happen every week or every couple of days. We can't launch with this instability. Any ideas as to what would cause the resetting of virtually all appearance settings?

I've never encountered anything like that. The only thing that comes close is if IIS needs to be restarted or if your application needs to be restarted.

Database entries don't change spontaneously ...

I noticed early on than when ever I changed one thing in the appearance of the site and updated, the logo would be gone and I would have to go back and reset it. It was never a real problem so I didn't worry about it. Now this blow up seems kind of similar, only I'm not making appearance changes. I did notice this morning that just before it blew up last night a friend had gone in and registered for a new account. I looked back and there were new account registrations the other 2 times as well. I tried to blow it up today by registering new accounts but that didn't work.

I've seen the logo go away if someone without privileges for viewing images made changes to the admin settings.

So maybe I should look at my permissions. Could be I have something wrong there. Thanks! That at least gives me another place to start

It could also be worth looking in your event log files and see if anything is showing up in there. - For instance, has anyone hacked into your system and guessed the username and password for admin? - Its worth looking at the log files just for any clues.

The event log is the first thing I checked. It's where I saw the General Protection errors. I also checked the detailed site log. It doesn't look like anyone is getting in.
