Upgrade from DNN 2.1.2 to DNN 3.x

Hi, * My webhost is giving me 2 MySQL and unlimited Access databases. Therefor I've installed DNN 2.1.2, since DNN 3.x and above required the MSSQL as the DB provider, (correct me if I'm wrong). * My question, is there any chance for me to upgrade the DNN version to 3.x or higher, while using the Access as my database provider? * If yes, then how to go about it. Any tutorial? Please Help Me!!!! Thanks for all opinions, suggestions and helps. Regards Musang Berjanggut

Hello, To use DNN3.x or 4.x you need an MS-SQL database, so you will not be able to upgrade a DNN2.x installation that uses Access to a DNN3.x using Access. Thanks,

I have a DNN 2.1.2 site using Access. I have SQL Server 2000 available. Is it feasible to upgrade to DNN 3.x or 4.x by converting to a SQL Server Database? If so, can someone point me towards a solution? Thanks

I'm not too sure how you would set this up. The first thing I would attempt is to change your DNN2.1.2 site to use a SQL database. I would install a DNN2.1.2 site using the same modules as the site you wish to upgrade using a SQL database so that you can view the table and procedure structure. I would then copy into this database the data from the Access database. Once all data has been transferred you can then change your web.config file to point to the SQL database rather than the access database. I would attempt all of this on a localhost installation rather than on a live website to see if it is possible to get it working and then if you are going to attempt this on a live website backup everything first. - This is all theory, I have not tested it and there maybe a better and easier method, I would check the main forum for any further advice. Before even going down this route, you may want to see if your DNN2.1.2 site is upgradable to DNN3.x. ie. can you upgrade the modules that you are currently using to work with DNN 3.x - I would do a test installation in DNN3.x with your modules to see if they work and to see if you need to upgrade them. - Some modules such as the Magic Gadget module that was available for DNN2 are no longer available for DNN3.x Thanks,
