I downloaded a free DNN skin.  I want to make some slight modifications to this skin for my client.  But the zip file only had ascx files and no HTML.

This has bamboozled me since I've grown accustomed to using HTML files in Visual Web Developer to layout skins.

Is there a way to convert an ascx file to HTML or is this the wrong approach?

I feel like I'm back at square one [laugh].

You don't need to convert it to a HTML file to make the modifications. - you can just edit that the ascx file direct, place it back in the skin zip file and upload it.

The only difference between the HTML version and the ascx version is that the HTML version uses tokens and a skin.xml file. - The ascx file has the settings for the tokens (the skin.xml file in the html version) set directly in the code of the ascx file.

If you are confused with how it works, it's worth taking one of your HTML skins, installing it to DotNetNuke, and then viewing the ascx file that DotNetNuke creates - this should allow you to compare the two versions and help you to understand the ascx method more easily.

Well it was not what I had planned but this sounds like good advise and worth the while.
