Hi, I'm in the UK and a beginner with DNN. This is a cracking piece of software. I want to broaden my knowledge by creating my own modules.

Everything I have done before has been in HTML, JScrip and data manipulation from the websites but I have no knowledge of ASP.NET or Visual Basic .NET...... Can anyone recommend a course, in the UK, dedicated to DNN newbies. The course MUST incorporate database updating and data manipulation from DNN.

If there is a site you could recommend then this will be appreciated.

If anyone can recommend a course please let me know.

If you don't know, "Express" versions of Microsoft's Visual Basic, Web Developer, and SQL Server Management Studio are available at the the Microsoft web site. They are professional quality tools.

Certainly if you don't know Visual Basic, that will be a small hurdle that you'll need to jump. If you've got some programming experience, that will help, and you ought to be able to pick up a lot from some books. I'd recommend that you spend a few hours in a bookship reviewing VB and/or VWD books. There are some quite nice books available.

I would also recommend the "Professional DotNetNuke 4" book by Shaun Walker and friends as a great introduction and good reference for DotNetNuke.

I believe that MS has some tutorials.

There are some nice tutorials on the web. For DotNetNuke, I recommend this site, the DotNetNuke "wiki" and Michael Washington's blog at dotnetnuke.com and also his personal site.

You might want to check out http://dnn.bi4ce.com/ ListX module. This allows you to develop, within DNN itself, database driven modules.

You need to be familiar with SQL, javascript and HTML, but you can develop very sophisticated modules once you've fathomed the esoteric methodology of ListX. The forums are a good source of help and inspiration.
