frustrated, template and module question

I'm a complete newbie to DNN and making websites in general. I've slowly been working my way through all the problems I'm running into and trying to read as much as possible. This site has been very useful and I hope to get a subscription when I can afford it. In the meantime there are two problems I'm hiting my head against the wall on. I'm hoping someone can help, apologies if these are super obvious things I should know. 1: I can't install the site template I'm trying to use. It doesn't show up on the site wizard as an option. This may be because: I'm able to upload the .template file but when I upload .template.resources it replaces the original .template file and I still only have one file showing, and then if I upload the .template again it simply replaces the resources file. 2: I installed the house of nuke skin but most of the modules are gone. I can't even add text content to the page because my only remaining modules are accountlogin/banners/feedexploer/adsense/searchinput/searchresults/ useraccount. Do I have to reinstall all these modules? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So after messing around for awhile I'm now able to see the template on the wizard but it errors when loading with "not a valid template". From reading elsewhere it looks like uploading a fixed portal.template.xsd file will take care of it (unless it's the lack of a resource file that's the problem). Where I'm stuck is I can't expand my portal root in the file manager to get to the correct folder. I don't understand how it can be a permissions problem if I've already set file access so admin should be able to view/edit all folders. Any ideas?

You really could do with viewing the tutorials in Issue no 17 to get your head around how it all works. - If you wish to view the template files you need to go to the host menu / file manager - if they are not showing up click on synchronize files. If you are having errors for 'not a valid template' there is a code solution to this here Thanks,
