I am interested in using the DotNetNuke site template feature to essentially make backups of tabs and also use them in a configuration control system.  I would like to:

• extract tabs from a template file on a  development site
  
• check the "tabs" into configuration control
• use these pieces of XML files to update a live server

The site is essentially "static" in that the only thing that's not under absolute control of the site operator is user registrations.  But these don't affect tabs.

Does anyone have any experience, suggestions, ideas about this?

I'm particularly intested in how I can import a partial site back into the live site and not mess it up ...

Good News! - As it happens, today I have just started recording videos on ..... How to create and use Page Templates.

I've discovered a method which even beginners can use for creating the Page Templates without getting your hands dirty trying to create the code. - I've found a way to set up the page exactly as you require, export the details of the page and create a page template from the code exported.

- It will be released in next months issue.

Does anyone know if this technique can also handle sub pages within the template?

A page template just creates a single page. The page template is used when you create a new page, so if you create a sub page and use a page template it will be applied to a sub page. - But I don't think you can automatically create sub pages when adding a new page.
