I am building a website for my company, a model agency and I want to give it a shot in DotNetNuke. I have searched through all the tutorials for how to create a content management system. If I wanted to build a gallery for say, Los Angeles with 50 thumbnails of models that enable me to link to a portfolio of the model in that thumbnail is this possible. Can I add a searchable database as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can certainly do this in DotNetNuke.

Exactly how you would do it depends on the amount of data, how often you want to update it, etc. You'd need to describe the task in a bit more detail to get some more specific recommendations.

If you were to do this using "core" DotNetNuke modules, you might want to start with the Repository module. You can use one of the business card or portfolio templates for the data. You can use categories and subcategories.

I'm also sure that there probably are some commercial modules that might be more suited for you application. Snowcovered.com is a good place to search for other DotNetNuke modules.

I would need to be able to have at least 200 galleries with up to 20 thumbnails that could expand to 400x600 images. I would be updating the site almost daily. I am totally new to this type of web design so any help is greatly appreciated. Don

Why not start small and try the Repository module. See if that works or -- if it doesn't -- identify what other functionality you need.
