Lee! Loads of thanks. I've tried it on localhost. Its done. ( A trivial correction: its Host Settings, not Site settings )
Another issue... i have made settings for Moderate Caching. Sometimes, it behaves like.. i deleted some skin package. When it loaded that page again, it showed critical error which has message... like access to path xyz denied.. the path is of the skin which was recently deleted. It seems that its because of caching. Do i need to make it "NoCaching"? |

Lee!
I think you somehwere posted a link to a site, where one can give the url of his dnn site to see its performance in terms of seconds. I couldn't find that link again. Can u please post it again? |

Lee!
I set compression settings this way:
Compression Setting: Deflate Compression Compression Level(Deflate) : 9
Initially, performance of site seemed to be improved (about two weeks ago). But now, again, its extremely slow. Is there anything wrong with my settings? Can u please explain, which compression settings give optimistic results?
Also, i didn't check the "Use Whitespace Filter" option. because, i read somewhere that it may cause to delete actual white spaces, thus causing disturbance in look and feel of original text. Is it so? Please let me know.
Thanks

Hello, I don't think the compression level makes any difference as in 4.5.1 the compression level option has been removed. - You just have the options of deflate or Gzip, it could be worth testing Gzip to see if it makes any difference. Yes I have also read about the whitespace potential problems so I would avoid using it unless you have fully tested it with your site. If you find it's still not making enough difference you may want to check out Snapsis Page Blaster I haven't tested it yet but I have heard good things about it , thanks, |

Lee and eureka! Thanks for your reply.
I have checked both deflate and Gzip options, but none worked to improve the speed. I will try Snapsis Pageblaster.
Eureka! can u please tell me shortly, how can i use it for my site. I mean, the steps to follow? |

Hi, First my site was slow and i applied HTTP Compression. Its performance got increased. But after few days, it again became slow. Then, i applied Snapsis Pageblaster and there was significant improvement in speed. But again, after few days, its performance is very bad. Can anyone suggest some permanent solution? |

Hi Saima:
Have you brought this issue up in the DotNetNuke forums? That's really where it needs to be mentioned, since they are the ones who will have the ability to address this issue in a future release of DNN.
You do not mention if you use any custom modules. Are you? (Besides the obvious snapsis pageblaster, that is. ;-)). If so, which ones are you using? We would need to know this information in order to help you here. The issue very well could be a poorly written dnn module...
Hope this helps. If you list all the specific modules, we may be able to help...this would also be all the modules in the dnn projects, since not all of them are optimal either...

Hey again Saima:
Another thing you can do, though a list would still give us good information, is to create a number of pages, one with no modules on it, to see how long it takes for that page to show up. This would tell you if this is a module problem or a DNN problem. Please let me know what happens as this is an issue I want to know about. We are *considering* using DNN for a portal, but I also am very concerned with the issue of page loads...

Hi, Its performance has become very un predictable. Now again, speed seems fine. Yes, i am using custom modules like SDN Store, online Video module of BizModules, DnnSiteMap. Among built in modules, i have used very simple ones like Links, Text, Feedback, FAQs, Events. Also, i am using two modules which i developed myself, but i followed the same coding pattern which is followed by built in modules. These are also very simple ones. One is used to collect user info if he wants to donate something, other retrieves some data from a table to display in a grid. When site is slow, it doesn't matter which page i'm browsing. Its slow for all the pages. Also, i haven't filled much data yet. It contains very little data for testing purposes. so, most of pages are almost blank. Since, site speed is not consistent, therefore i'm not sure... whether its perfomance will remain fine. so, i need to find actual reason of this problem, if you can help. Thanks.

I don't know if you came to a resolution but this sounds like a hosting provider problem to me. I think Lee is right on the money. Your site is probably not running in its own application pool. It is also possible that the DB Server you are using is overworked or simply slow. Your site should be predictable, even if it is predictably slow.
The reason I am posting this is that I am moving away from a host which caused these same problems. After moving to a different host, my problems are gone.
Good luck. |
